Definitions
- A is a funnel of the ordinary construction. Across this funnel, on the inside, are placed wires B, secured on each side, and so placed as to designate the dii'erent quantities of fluid in the funnel below them, as pints, quarts, Ste.
- This valve is raised and lowered by means of the bent rod D, which rises perpendicularly, passing through the guide B', and is then bent so as to pass through the case E', attached to the inside of the funnel near the top.
- This case incloses a spiral spring, E, surrounding the rod D, to which it is attached below by resting on a flange, or other equivalent mode. This spring, pressing downward upon the rod D, holds the valve rmly upon its seat.
- the rod D passingthrough the case, is attached to the end of a lever, F, which has its fulcrum on a pivot passing through the standards G attached to the handle H.
- the opposite end of the lever has a dat thumb-piece, F', and is so placed in relation to the handle H that, the funnel being held in the hand, grasped by the n gers, the thumb may, by pressing upon the lever, raise the valve O and discharge the liquid contained in the funnel.
- a measuring funnel constructed with a valve, G, raised by the bent rod D, with a spiral spring, E, and lever F, and having also transverse rods B for measuring quantities, said several parts being respectively constructed and arranged for use in relation to the funnel and to one another, substantially as set forth.

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
CHAUNCEY W. FULLER, OF EARLVILLE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FUNNEL-MEASURES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,494, datedAugust 28, 1866.
To all whom it may concern: f
Be it known that I, GHAUNGEY W. FULLER, of Earl ville, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Measuring-Funnels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, made part of this specification, in which- Figurel is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section.
The saine letters in the dierent drawings refer to identical parts.
A is a funnel of the ordinary construction. Across this funnel, on the inside, are placed wires B, secured on each side, and so placed as to designate the dii'erent quantities of fluid in the funnel below them, as pints, quarts, Ste.
The bottom of the funnel, at the top of the conical eduction-pipe A', is a valve, C, with a suitable packing on its face, and fitting on a valve-seat, so as to make the bottoni watertight. This valve is raised and lowered by means of the bent rod D, which rises perpendicularly, passing through the guide B', and is then bent so as to pass through the case E', attached to the inside of the funnel near the top. This case incloses a spiral spring, E, surrounding the rod D, to which it is attached below by resting on a flange, or other equivalent mode. This spring, pressing downward upon the rod D, holds the valve rmly upon its seat. The rod D, passingthrough the case, is attached to the end of a lever, F, which has its fulcrum on a pivot passing through the standards G attached to the handle H. The opposite end of the lever has a dat thumb-piece, F', and is so placed in relation to the handle H that, the funnel being held in the hand, grasped by the n gers, the thumb may, by pressing upon the lever, raise the valve O and discharge the liquid contained in the funnel.
Having fully explained the character of my improvements in measnring-funnels, what I claim as my invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A measuring funnel constructed with a valve, G, raised by the bent rod D, with a spiral spring, E, and lever F, and having also transverse rods B for measuring quantities, said several parts being respectively constructed and arranged for use in relation to the funnel and to one another, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed myname to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GHAUNGEY W. FULLER.
