To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK DoBsoN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Sanford, in the county ot' York and Sta'te of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pen-Ejectors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art vto which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in penholders, the same residing particularly in pen --ejecting mechanism connected therewith..

The object of the invention is to provide means whereby a pen-point may be readily inserted into a holder and may be quickly and conveniently ejected therefrom without the necessity of handling the dirty pen-point with the ngers.

The invention consists of a penholder having a movable clamp for holdin gthe pen-point therein made up of two parts pivoted to each other at their rear ends, .means for holding said clamp within said holder, and a spring for forcing the saine outwardly.

The invention also consists in other details of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In thedrawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 represents an elevation of my improved penholder, the rear end thereof being broken away to show the spring on the inside. Fig. 2 is a similar View taken at right angles to Fig. l and showing the same in the act of ej ecting the pen-point. Fig. 3 is a perspective view ofthe clamp.

rPhe holder l is tubular in shape and is adapted to receive the handle at its rear end. Through its upper side extends an elongated slot 2, having a lateral extension 3 at its rear end, forming a shoulder 4. 5 represents a clamp for holding the pen-point G, the same being made of two half-round strips 7 S of metal pivoted at their rear ends or formed integral one with the other. Attached to the rear end of the clamp 5 is a button or projection 9, which is adapted to slide within the slot 3, as clearly shown. Connected to the rear end of the clamp is a coil-spring 10, which abuts against an internal shoulder ll at the rear end. of the holder l, the same being formed by a circumferential crimp or depression, as clearly shown.

The operation of my device is as follows: When it is desired to insert a pen-point in the holder, the clamp 5 is forced outwardly by means of the button 9 and the pen-point 6 inserted between the two strips constituting said clamp. The same is then forced rearwardly against the pressure of the spring 10 and locked in place by throwing` the button 9 to one side, so that it engages the shoulder 4 at the end of the slot 2. Then it is desired to eject the pen, it is merely necessary to push the button 9 in the opposite direction, when through theaction of the spring l0 the clamp 5 will be thrown outwardly, causing the penpoint 6 to be disconnected therefrom. It will thus be seen that it is not necessaryin order to remove the pen-point to touch the same with the fingers.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and ydesire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The combination with a penholder, of a movable clamp for holding a pen-point therein made up of two parts pivoted to each other at their rear ends, means for holding said clamp within said holder, and a spring for forcing the saine outwardly, substantially as aud for the purpose described.

2. The combination with a penholder, having au elongated slot therein with a lateral extension at its rear end forming ashoulder, of a movable clamp for holding a pen-point "made up of two parts pivoted to each other at their rear ends, a pin or button secured to said clamp adapted to slide in said slot, and a spring engaging the rear end of said clamp, substantially as and for the purpose described.

3. The combination with a penholder, having an elongated slot therein with a lateral extension at its rear end forming a shoulder, of a clamp for holding a pen-point made up of a pair of half-round strips of metal conneeted together at their rear ends, L pin or button on said clamp proj eating through the slot in said holder and adapted to be brought into engagement with the shoulder at the rear end of said slot, and t spring for no1'- lnally urging said Clamp outwardly, substantially as and for the purpose described.
