SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,041, dated April 15, 1884.
. Application filed June 11, 1883. (No model.)
To all, whom, it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE G. WARD, of Girard, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented anew and Improved Pencil, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relates'to automatic pencils in which the lead or crayon is projected by pressure on the rear end of a spring-tube; and
it consists in combining the parts as herein after described, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification,
in which similar letters of reference indicate Two automatic pencils, A, of the usual construction, are united at their base ends by a tube, B, into the opposite ends of which the ends of the pencils are passed and fixed, either by pressing part of the tube into the pencil or in any other suitable manner. The tube B is provided between the ends of the pencil with two opposite longitudinal slots, 0, through which a transverse pin, D, passes, which has its ends fastened to a sleeve, E,
Fig. 4 is a sleeve E is pushed in the direction toward the front of the corresponding holder, whereby the corresponding lead or crayon will be pro jected a short distance in the same manner as in the usual automatic pencils, the spring G pressing the sleeve E back again immediately.
If desired, a pen-holder, H, can be united with a pencil by passing the end of the pencil into the end of the pen-holder tube, which is provided with the slots 0 and the sleeve E, having the pin D. in the manner described.
' The sleeve E is used in the manner described for projecting the lead or crayon from the pencil united to the pen-holder.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The; combination, with two tubes, A A, having spring-pressed pencil-holders F F, of a tube, B, having two longitudinal slots, 0 O, and a sliding sleeve, E, provided with the cross-pin D, as and for the purpose specified.
