SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 574,501, dated January 5, 1897.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EUGENE VIRGILE CESAR TASSINARI, engraver, a subject of the King of Italy, residing in Paris, France, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Billiard-Chalk Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has for its object a shell or hull made of celluloid or other plastic material and provided with an interior space or chamber for containing chalk or other material for chalking the tips of billiard-cues.

-In carrying out my invention, although the shell may be made in various ways, I prefer to mold it in two parts and to cement these parts togetherin any suitable manner.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the two molded parts of a shell made according to my invention and shown before being united together. Fig. 2 is a similar View, partly in section, showing the shell after the two parts have been united and the flange excess has been cut away; and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of Fig. 2.

In carrying out my invention I make'use of a sheet of celluloid of any suitable thickness and mold therefrom the upper and lower parts a and b of the shell, as shown in Fig. 1, leaving a flangcfand 0 around the edge of each of the parts. I then cement the flanges f and c together by any suitable means and cut away any excess of the flange, as shown in Fig. 2. Part a is provided with an inner rim d, which serves to prevent the chalk from falling out of the shell. 7

After the shell has been made I then proceed to fill it with chalk or any other desired Serial No. 587,349. (No model.)

material, and in so doing I make use of chalk or other material which I first convert into a pasty mass. This pasty mass is introduced and forced into the shell, and it is made to fill up the whole of the space and particularly the circular space inclosed between rim (1 and shell I). The filling is then allowed to dry, and when dry it can be made use of for the purposes for which it is intended' I wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the form of shell shown in the drawings annexed hereto, as shells made according to my process can assume a variety of forms; nor do I limit myself to the process of manufacture which I have described, as it is obvious that the shells can be made in many different ways.

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A plastic shell for billiard-chalks composed of two parts a, and I), having flanges f, and c, cemented together, one of the parts having a retaining rim cl, and opening 6, and the other part forming a pocket, substantially as shown and described.

2. A billiard-chalk holder consisting of the part a, having a flange f, formed integrally therewith,the part I), having a flange 0, formed integrally therewith, and the inner concavev rim cl, in the part a, being provided with an opening e, adapted for the admission of a billiard-cue tip, substantially as shown and described.
