Be it known that I, JOHN L. DAWES, a resident of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Drawer- Pulls; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention relates to drawer-pulls, and has special reference to such as are used by chemists, druggists, and apothecaries on drawers for the storing of ingredients, &c.

The object of my invention is to provide a drawer-pull which is simple in construction and can be easily and cheaply made, and one which can easily beapplied to any form of drawer and for use with any form or kind of label.

My invention consists in a drawer-pull having a shank and a recessed front face, in combination with a label adapted to fit in said recess and to be secured therein by means of a slotted connection.

It also consists in certain other details of construction and combination of parts, all of which will be more fully hereinafter set forth and claimed.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe the same more fully, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view showing my improved drawer-pull. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section thereof, showing it applied to a drawer and having a porcelain label therein. Fig. 3 is a rear face view of the label, showing the means for securing it in position. Fig. 4 is a face view, and Fig. 5 is a like view showing the label removed.

Like letters here indicate like parts in each of the figures of the drawings.

My improved drawer-pullis shown at a, and is preferably formed of glass or metal, as desired, having the shank b, said shank being generally formed circular in cross-section. A flange c is formed on an incline on the shank b, as at cl, and has the front or outer surface 6, around which is the raised portion or projection f, which acts to support the label 9 therein. The shank b has the bolt-hole h therein for the passage of the bolt '0', said bolt 5 having a head i at its forward end, which engages with the seat j in the front or outer surface 0 in the shank b. The bolt 41, passing through the front k of the drawer, is secured thereto by the nut Z, which engages with the screw-threaded end 71 on the rear end of the bolt t' and presses against the front face of the drawer. At the rear of the shank b and forming part of the hole h is the square recess m, said recess being for the reception of the nut n, engaging with the threaded end 2' of the bolt 1' to lock the bolt 2' within the pull a and prevent its becoming loose when attached to the drawer, and also to prevent all liability of the bolt working through and forcing out or breaking the label. On the rear face e of the shank b is the recess 0, which enables the operator to grasp the pull more firmly in handling the same.

The label g and the pull a are secured together by means of a joint, which I shall designate as a bayonet-joint. This joint consists of a recess p in the rear face 9 of the label, into which the head 2" of the bolt 2' is passed, so looking it therein and enabling the label to be securely fastened to the pull.

It will be seen that my improved drawerpull is simple in construction, can be easily made in molds or other suitable manner, and is not liable to become broken in handling or shipping. Being formed of solid matter, it can be attached more rigidly to the drawer and can easily be' grasped by the operator. Any form of label can be used on the pull, and the label can be inserted without the removal of the pull from the drawer. The device can easily be attached to the drawer and is strong as well as neat in appearance.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, in a drawer-pull, of a body portion having a shank and a recessed front face, a label having a recess in its rear face, and a bolt passing through said body portion and shank and having a head at its forward end adapted to engage with the recess in the label and to lock the same by means of a bayonet-joint; substantially as described.

2.
