To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LUCILE CARLISLE WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to improvements in corsets, and the object is to produce a device of this kind to take the place of the ordinary corset; and to this end the novelty consists in a corset having a particular construction of bosom-form and waistband-straps, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings the same figures of reference indicate the same parts of the invention.

The corset is formed of two plies of material, closed at the front 1 and open at the back 2, and provided with a series of vertical pockets 13, arranged singly at suitable intervals, and in each of these pockets is inserted a flexible stiffener 14. Intersecting these vertical pockets 13 is a series of transverse pockets 15, arranged in a battery, as designated by the reference-numeral 16, and in each pocket of each battery series is inserted a stiffener 19, bowed to give a convex form to the parts 20 21, as shown. 1

Two front straps 5 5 are secured to the front shoulder portions 4. 4.. These straps extend over the shoulders, are crossed behind, and their ends, which are provided with buttonholes 6 6, are secured to the buttons 7 7 011 the ends 8 8 at the back.

9 and 10 are the waist-straps, secured to the lower opposite ends of the back, and pass around in front, the strap 10 being provided with a vertical slot 11, through which the strap 9 is passed, the free ends being secured in front by the buckle 12.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s

A corset having a closed front and open back, comprising the vertical pockets 13, the stiifeners 14 in said pockets, the intersecting transverse pockets 15, arranged in batteries 16, and the stiffeners 19 secured in said pockets, the crossed shoulder-straps 5 5, and the Waist-straps 9 10, the strap 9 being formed with a slot 11 through which the strap 10 passes, the two straps encompassing the waist and secured in front by a buckle 12, substantially as shown and described.
