BREAST-STRAP SLIDE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 573,559, dated December 22, 1896.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY D. IVARNER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Roller-Snaps for Team or lVagon Harness, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side view of the device. Fig. 2 is what maybe called a front view of the device with the straps, &c., attached. Fig. 3 is a View in cross-section upon the plane 0: 0c of Fig. 2.

The object of the improvement is the produ ction of an economical, efficient, and handy device to serve as an intermediate attachment between three parts, to wit: one end of the yoke on the end of the pole, (for a double team,) the pole or martingale strap which runs therefrom between the forward legs of the horse, and the breast-strap hanging somewhat loosely from the horse-collar.

In the accompanying drawings the letter a denotes the hook-body, and 1) denotes the spring-tongue normally pressed to closure by a spring in or under the same. This part-of the device serves for the attachment to the end of the neckyoke c by means of the intermediate ring cl. The other end of the hook-body bears the bifurcation or fork 6, within which is hung the roll f. The breast-strap g, which depends from the horse-collar, runs around this roll f, thereby supporting the whole device and its appurtenant parts. Meanwhile the roll f has some permissible motion in and upon the strap g.

The letter h denotes a standard rising from the side of the hook-body. To it is attached (preferably pivotally) the strap-eye 11. This screw Z, subsequently inserted in place, a

method of construction which has various advantages. To this end the mouth 2" of the eye i is made an open mouth to permit the introduction of the permanent loop on the martingale-strap.

The device as a whole is compact, strong, efficient, economical in length of straps, readily placed and displaced, and withal it gives a certain freedom of motion to this device in the nature of a universal joint for the purposes in hand. Practically the use of this device effects the attachment of the harnessed horses to the neck-yoke or their detachment therefrom simply by a single manipulation of the spring-tongue. The drawings show the ring cl attached to the end of the neckyoke. In some constructions it simply encircles the neck-yoke near its end.
