1 HAME-OLIP.-
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1909.
Application filed. January 30, 1909. Serial No. 475,230.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs W. DUNFEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of Sandusky and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Hame-Clip, of which the following is a specification.
It is the object of this invention to pro vide, in a simple, inexpensive and merchantable form, a hame clip which maybe attached to hames without mutilating the said hames, the said clip being readily adjustable thereon and from which the breast strap ring may readily be removed, the entire device in its attachment, removal, and adjustment calling for no exercise of mechanical skill.
With these and other objects in view, as will hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described, delineated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that divers changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made without departing from the spirit or sacrificing anv of the advantages of the invention.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to denote corresponding parts ings. V
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 shows my invention in perspective; and Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
In carrying out my invention I provide clip sections denoted generally by the nu meral 1. These clip sections 1 are spaced apart and each is provided with a shoulder 2. To the forward of the shoulders 2 the clips are flattened and their sides are outwardly convexcd, as denoted by the numeral 3. The forward terminals of the clip sections are backbent to form straight sides 4,
the extremities of these sides a being thickened as shown at 5 and arranged tocontact with the shoulders 2. The thickened portions 5 and-the shoulders 2 are provided with alined apertures designed to receive a threaded element 6, whereby the portions 5 may be drawn toward the shoulders 2, it being understood that .suflicient resiliency resides in the portions 4 to admit of a slight throughout the several figures of the drawmovement in the terminals 5 toward and from the shoulders 2.
The rear terminals 7 project beyond the shoulders 2 and are disposed in a plane substantially at right angles to the portions 3 and 4 of the clips. These rear terminals 7 are provided with alined apertures designed to receive a trace-engaging element which, in the form shown, takes the shape of a bolt 8, a ferrule 9 being journaled for rotation upon the bolt 8 between the rear terminals 7. A bracket 10 preferably Ushaped and designed to receive the breast strap ring unites theblip sections 1 near the shoulders 2.
It'will be seen that the hame clip of my invention may be mounted readily upon a hame and that no boring, riveting or other mechanical operation is required for its adjustment. By the use of a screw driver only, the clip may be placed upon or removed from the hame and its position thereon may be adjusted from time to time to bring the draft upon the proper point of the collar. The device is so constructed that it may be attached to hames of diiferent dimensions, and by removing the bolt 8, the breast strap ring may be introduced into and removed from the device without any -mechanical operation whatsoever.
By the use of the ferrule 9 the end ofthe trace is given free movement upon the clip, and one ferrule may readily be replaced by another of different diameter to accommodate worn trace attachments or trace attachments of different dimensions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the class described, a pair of clip sections spaced apart, each having one of its terminals back-bent into separable connection with itself to form a loop; a transverse, ring-holding bracket uniting the clip sections, and forming the sole integral connection there-between; and trace-engaging means removably assembled with the clip sections.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES W. DUNFEE.
