TICKET-CASE.

Beit known that I, ELBERT S. MCMASTER, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Grand Forks, in the county of Grand Forks and State of North Dakota, have invented a new and useful Ticket-Oase, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in coupon or ticket cases; and it has for its object to provide a case of this character which shall be simple in construction and designed for use in the place of coupon-books ordinarily' employed in connection with railroads, stores, and for other analogous purposes where it is desired to issue a series of coupons or tickets which may be easily and quickly detached for use.
To this end the invention consists, substantially, in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully illustrated, described, and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a ticket-case constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the case open and the strip of coupons or tickets removed therefrom. Fig. 3 isalongitudinal sectional View. Fig. fi is a plan view of a portion of a coupon or ticket strip employed in connection with this invention.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the gures.
Referring to the drawings, l designates the covering-plate of myimproved case, one end of which is formed into a casing 2, adapted to swing with said plate and preferably of cylindrical shape, and said casin g 2 has one of its ends closed and the other open to permit a roll of coupons or tickets being passed therethrough.
The casing 2 is provided with a slot 3, which extends throughout its entire length, and hinged to said casing at one side of said slot is a supporting-plate 4, which is parallel with the covering-plate l when the case is closed. The strip of coupons or tickets passes between the covering and supporting plates, and in order to assist the passage of such strip a tinger-opening 5 is formed in the covering-plate, through which opening a tin ger or thumb may Contact with the exposed face of the coupons or tickets and thereby aid the removal of the same. For exposing to view the number of each coupon or ticket an opening 6 is also provided in the covering-plate l, said opening 6 being essentially of less size than the fingeropening and arranged so that the numbers on the coupons or tickets will pass below the same, thus permitting each of such numbers to be determined before the coupons or tickets pass out of the case.
Each side of the supporting-plate 4 is turned up to provide locking-flanges 7 by which the covering-plate is held upon said supporting-plate and prevented swinging away from the same. As will be observed, the lockingiianges 7 and 8 project upwardly from the supportingplate 4, and when the coveringplate l is closed upon said supporting-plate said covering-plate lies between the lockingflanges, the latter embracing the side edges of the covering-plate and thus holding the same in locked position. The flange 8 has its outer end terminating a short distance from the adjacent end of the supportingplate to permit the insertion of a finger-nail or any other suitable implement, so that the case may be easily opened, and it is also to be l noted that the flange 7, at a pointdiagonally opposite to the shortened end of the flange 8, terminates a short distance from the adjacent end of the supporting-plate, the purpose of which is to allow the casing 2 to swing into its proper position when the case is closed.
The flange 8 is provided with a closure- `disk 9, and said disk extends upwardly from the end of ,said locking-flange 8 which is adjacent to the open end ofthe casing 2, so that when the covering-plate is folded upon the supporting-plate the open end of the casing 2 passes into a position behind said-disk, the latter closing such open end and preventing the coupons or tickets from passing out of the casing.
From the foregoing the advantages of the herein-described case will be readily understood by those skilled in the art. ln practice the case is preferably formed of aluminium, and, as illustrated, the strip of coupons or tickets is formed of a width suitable to the length of the casing 2, so that said strip when rolled may be passed therein, and said strip is provided with three columns of printed matter, one of which designates the number of the coupons or tickets, the central column giving the denomination thereof, and the third column showing the valuation of the coupons or tickets which remain in the casing 2. A promissory-note is provided at one end of the strip, and upon the rear side of the latter is placed, inl any suitable manner, the name of the party or parties using the same. The strip of coupons or tickets after being placed Within the casing 2 has one of its ends projecting through the slot 3 of said casing, and when it is desired to detach any of the coupons or tickets the end of the strip is drawn between the plates l and 4:, the opening 5 permitting a finger or thumb to be passed therethrough and against the said strip in order to assist the withdrawal of the same, so that when the desired number of coupons or tickets projects beyond the outer end of the plates l and et said coupons or ticketsv may be severed from the main portion of the strip. Thus it will be seen that the coupons or tickets ma-y be easily and quickly handled and the case readily carried within the pocket, the necessity of couponbooks, as heretofore employed, being entirely overcome.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by LettersIatent, is-
1. A coupon or ticket case of substantially cylindrical form having a slot in one side, a supporting-plate hinged to the casing at one side of the slot, and a covering-plate of a size corresponding to the supporting-plate attached to the casing at the opposite side of the said slot, the said slot being closed by a portion of the supporting-plate when' the covering-plate is closed thereon, substantially as specified.
2. A coupon or ticket case of approximately cylindrical form haif'ing a slot in one side, a supporting-plate hinged to the case at one side of the slot, and a covering-plate having connection with the case at the opposite side of the slot and adapted to be swung with the case toward and from the supporting-plate, one of the plates having a finger-opening ,to permit' contact with the coupon or ticket strip, and the plates lying substantially parallel when brought together, and a portion of the supporting-plate extending over and closing the slot of the case, substantially as specified.
3. A case of the class described, comprising a covering-plate, a casing formed at one end of said covering-plate and adapted toreceive a roll of coupons or tickets, a supporting-plate secured to said casing and lying parallel with the covering-plate when the case is closed, a disk carried by the supporting-plate and adapted to close the casing in order to prevent the roll of coupons or tickets being displaced therefrom, and means for retaining said covering-plate upon the supporting-plate, sub'- sta-ntially as set forth.
4. A case of the class described, comprising a covering-plate, a casing formed at one end of said covering-plate and adapted to receive a roll of coupons or tickets, a s upporting-plate secured to said casing and lying parallel with the covering-plate when the case is closed, said covering-plate being provided with a iinger-opening to permit contact with the strip of coupons or tickets in order to assist removal of the same from the case, and also provided with an opening adapted to expose the number of each coupon or ticket, a disk carried by the supporting-plate and adapted to close the casing in order to prevent displacement therefrom of the roll of coupons or tickets, and means for retaining the coveringplate upon the supporting-plate, substantially as set forth.
5. A case of the class described, comprising a covering-plate, a casing formed at one end of said covering-plate and adapted to receive a roll of coupons or tickets, asupporting-plate secured to said casing and lying parallel with the covering-plate when the case is closed, locking-flanges formed at the sides of the supporting-plate and projecting therefrom, said flanges being adapted to embrace the side edges of the covering-plate to lock the latter uponthe supporting-plate, and a disk carried by one of the locking-flanges and adapted to close the casing in order` to prevent the roll of coupons or tickets being displaced therefrom, substantially as set forth.
G. A case of the class described, comprising a covering-plate, a casing formed at one end of the covering-plate `and adapted to swing with said plate, said casing having one of its ends closed and the other open and adapted to receive a roll of coupons or tickets, a supporting-plate secured to said casing and lying parallel with the 'covering-plate when the case is closed, said covering-plate being provided with a iinger-opening to permit contact with the strip of coupons or tickets in order to assist removal of the same from the case, and also provided with an opening adapted to eX- pose the number of each coupon or ticket, locking-flanges formed at the sides of the supporting-plate and projecting therefrom, said flanges being adapted to embrace the side edges of the covering-plate to lockthe latter upon the supporting-plate, and a disk carried by one of the locking-anges, said disk extending from the end of said flange which is adjacent to the open end of the casing and adapted to close said casing in order to prevent the roll of coupons or tickets being displaced therefrom, substantially as set forth.
