Application led J une 8, 1918,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY LLOYD WEISS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gary, in the county of McDowell and State of West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specication.
Ihis invention relates to an improved form of check protector and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for protecting checks of persons not provided with the mechanical protectors.
Another object of the invention is to provide a covering means for the check to prevent the same from being raised but permitting the same to be indorsed, said covering means being removed by the cashier of the bank.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and efhcient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.
'Ihe invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying` drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a view of the rear side of the envelop forming the subject matter of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a face view thereof.
As shown in these views the invention is in the formvof an envelop 1 made of transparent material and having one end open.'
The face of the envelop at this open end is provided -with a tab 2 provided with a rounded free end 3 which may be coated with adhesive material. The other face of the envelop adjacent said open end is pro- 4 which is enga ed by said rounded end w en the pad is fol ed over, so that the adhesive material thereon willcome in contact with the check within thel envelop. I'prefer to make this tab of Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 117, 11918.
Serial No. 238,870.
l tough transparent paper of a diiferent color from that of the envelop. I locate seals 5 around the edges of the envelop of like material to that of the tab and said seals are doubled to engage both'thefront and rear faces of the envelop. As shown, these seals are placed on the side and the rear end edges of the envelop. Adjacent the rear end of said envelop on the rear face thereof I form an oblong slot 6 so that the check may be indosed therethrough without removing the check from the envelop.
I place on the rear face of the envelop the words To be opened by cashier only, or similar words with a space for the signature of the person issuing the check.
After the check is written it is placed within the envelop and sealed therein by means of the tab 2 havin its end moistened and secured to the rear ace of the envelop and the check through the opening 4. The
,payee may readily read the check through the transparent envelop and he may indorse the same through the slot 6. When he presents the same to the bank the cashier can readily see that the check hasnot been tampered with owing to the seals being unbroken and he may remove the check from the envelop and treat it as usual. In this w-ay it is impossible for the amount of the check to be raised.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall withature. ISS.
