CONVERTIBLE GAM E-TABLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,688, dated December 8, 1896.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ARTHUR CLEMENS Dnno SEIFERT, cabinet-maker, a subject of the King of Saxony, and a resident of 71 Zschopauerstrasse, Chemnitz, in the Kingdom of Saxony and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Convertible Game-Tables, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 20,875, bearing date October 31, 1894, and sealed February 12, 1895,) of which the following is a specification.

My invention has for its object to provide a table which is especially adapted for use in playing a variety of games.

My invention consists in novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.

Underneath the with a cushioned recess f, providing a billiard-board. The outer table-top is formed with a rear extension a, and the inner tabletop is formed with a rear extension f. These extensions are connected together by hinges f", so as to enable the outer table-top to be folded beneath the extension of the inner table-top out of the way of the players into the recess f", formed in the under side of the extension of the inner table-top.

Just underneath the inner table-top at the front of the table is a long upper compartment g", which is occupied bya withdrawable writing board or desk g, having a folding extension g, which can be supported on the edge of the table in the position shown in Fig. 2.

Extending the length of the table, at the rear thereof, is an upper compartment h, closed by a drop-door s and inwhich is located a sectional skittle-race h, having ton gue-and-groove connection with the sides of the compartment. The skittle-race is capable of being folded and then placed in the rear upper compartment, the skittle-race, when removed, unfolded, and replaced, projecting over each end of the table one-quarter of the length of the skittle-race, so that the position of the skittles may be observed during the game. On the same level with the skittle-race at the ends of the table are drawers 2', located in an intermediate compartment 2" and serving to receive a separate draught or checkerand chess board, together with the necessary checkers, figures, dominoes, adice-box, a box of building-bricks, Frobels game-boxes, or other small apparatus for use in playing parlor-games. The drawers are specially divided to receive these appliances.

Below the rear upper compartment 71/ and the front intermediate compartment 0 is a lower compartment extending the whole length and width of the table and closed by a drop-door s. In this compartment is located a 'livoli game 70, (also called German billiards,) capable of being drawn out. Beneath these compartments is a pendent receptacle m, closed by a drop-door n, and capable of being opened from the side, and containing the following objects: A dolls theater outer table-top is an inner table-top f, formed with various ornaments and figures, a 1nu sical box, and electric-light fittings for the dolls theater.

All the drawers, including the skittle-race and Tivoli game, may be completely inserted into the table, and the corresponding compartments may be closed by ornamental covers.

The table may be provided with an ornamental covering Z, on which is printed a map.

If the table is to be used for playing billiards, the roller-casters are removed from the legs and adjusting-screws are fitted to the legs, by means of which an exactly horizontal position of the table can be easily obtained. The upper table-top is then turned back and down into the position represented in Fig. 3. For using the skittle-raee the latter is drawn out of the table, extended by turning on its hingejoint, and then again pushed into the table until it occupies the position shown in Fig. 5. For using the Tivoli game it is also drawn out of the table until it occupies the position represented in Fig. 5.

To use the' table for writing, the folded writing-board g is drawn out of the table, the upper half or extension is turned up, and the board pushed back, so that the upper half rests upon the edge of the outer table-top a at the desired angle, as shown in Fig. 2. Other means may, however, be adapted for supporting the upper half of the board g. Games such as chess, draughts or checkers, dominoes, dice, Frobels games, Tiddledy Winks may be played directly upon the outer table-top.

The above-mentioned games may, however, be replaced by others, according to local requirements. The number of drawers or compartments may be increased by applying small drawers and boxes also to the sides of the table or by fitting the same into the sides. The new game-table is therefore suitable for playing a great variety of games and for storing the various appliances used for the same.

Having thus described my invention, the following is what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A game-table comprising a table-top, a compartment open at both ends and the folding game-board occupying the compartment when closed and projecting beyond the ends of the table-top when opened; substantially as described.

2. A game-table comprising a table-top, a compartment open at both ends and located beneath the table-top, and the folding gameboard occupying the compartment when closed having tongue-and-groove connection with the sides of the compartment and projecting beyond the table-top when opened; substantially as described.

3. A game-table comprising a table-top, a front upper compartment, a front intermediate compartment open at both ends and located beneath the front upper compartment, the rear upper compartment open at both ends, and the lower compartment located beneath the said rear upper compartment and the said front intermediate compartment; substantially as described.
