UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANN PETER JUNGELS, OF GROSS GLOGAU, GERMANY.
SUPPORT FOR MAPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,547, dated December -8, 1896.
Application filed July '7, 1894. Serial No. 516,865. (No model.) Patented in Germany May 3, 1892, No. 65,177.
To (all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHANN PETER -JUN- GELs, teacher, of Gross Glogau, Kingdom of Prussia, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Cards or Maps, dzc. (patented in Germany, No. 65,177, dated May 3, 1892,) of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an apparatus for the support or suspension of maps, cards, pictures, &c., such as are used in schools for instructive purposes, in such a manner as to render the same completely and distinctly visible to the pupils from any point under a good light and without optical delusion.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings is a front view of the apparatus with its arms in folded position. Fig. 2 is a front view of the apparatus with its arms in a position ready for use. Fig. 3 isaside View of the apparatus supporting a card or map in an inclined po sition.
The stand A consists of the legs and an iron tube with lateral slit, as shown in Fig. 3.
The part B, carrying the article, is a round rod with folding arms a at the head end, movand provided with adjustable hooks for sus pending the maps or cards, Fig. 2, are fixed with the angular ends 6 by the axles i to the disk-like ends of a shaft 10, for which bearin a downward position, are held fast by the resistance of the cheeks b and retain the arms in horizontal position, but loose their hold when placed upright and allow the arms to fold down into their vertical position, Fig. 1.
The adjusting arrangementc, Fig. 3, consists of a collar 8 with the semicircular adjoined piece 0 and an outrigger h with a clamp f, Figs. 1, 2, and 3. The collar can be turned and adjusted as required and, by means of its adjusting screw fixed to any point of the support or stand. The arm serves to-hold the lower card-support, Figs. 2 and 3, which is held in the clampf by means of the screw [0 The outrigger h, Fig. 3, is formed at its inner end of two legs turnably fixed at its lower end by a round peg in the center 0 of the semicircular adjoined piece 0 of the collar 8 and can be secured by its adj Listing-screw k in any angular position relative to the stand A. Through this the inclined position and stretching out of the maps is effected, Figs. 2 and 3, and the same is regulated as required.
Having now described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv In a support for cards or maps, &c., the combination of a stand, a round rod movable and adjustable therein by means of a tighteningsc rew and provided at the head end wit-h a bridge-piece having two uprights, a shaftjourmailed in the uprights and having disk-like ends, arms pivo ed to the disk-like ends and provided with adjustable hooks, and an adjusting arrangement consisting of a collar adjustable on the said stand and an outrigger being turnably fixed to said collar, and a clamp; as and for the purpose set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed witnesses.
JOHANN PETER J UNGELS.
