DISPLAY-STAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led October 1, 1910.
Patented Nov. 7, 1911. Serial No. 584,945.
fe all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, VILLIAM E. RAGSDALE, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Artesia, county of Eddy, and Territory cf New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display stands.
The present invention has for its object' the provision of a display stand especially adapted for displaying trousers and utilizable in the sale thereof, the purpose being to provide a stand of simple, strong, durable, inexpensive and ornamental appearance which can be revolved to any desired position, will have novel means for holding trousers in either upward or'more or less horizontal position so that the general appearance thereof, as well as the tailoring may be readily determined, which will enable the goods to be readily placed in position or removed, and which will occupy but small space.
The invention is fully set forth hereinafter and the novel features are recited in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention, one of the leaves being extended; Fig. 2, a vertical section; Fig. 3, a detail view of one of the trousers clamps; Fig. 4, a detail of one of the leaf hinges; Fig. 5, a detail of the revoluble collar in which the leaf supports are stepped; Fig. (3, a detail of one of the leaf supports; Fig. 7, a section through the revoluble head; Fig. 8, a section on line 8-8 Fig. 7; and Fig. 9, a section on line 9-9 Fig. 7.
A base 1 supports the column or pillar 2 which may be secured thereto in any preferred manner as, for instance, by screwing into a base flange 3 which is fastened to the base 1. The base flange 3 is provided with a ball race 4 containing balls on which rests a revoluble collar 5 loose on column 2 having apertures G corresponding in number to the leaf supports and adapted to receive them.
Screwed on to the upper end of the column 2 is a cap 7 which is internally-screwthreaded to receive a spindle 8 whose upper end has a cone 9. A tube 10 surrounds the spindle S and is provided with a cap 11 at its upper end which holds suitable balls in a race 12, said balls bearing on the cone 9.
A sleeve 13 is employed at the lower end of the tube 10.
The revolving head 14 may be as ornamental as desired, being preferably constructed of wood and it has an opening or socket which receives the tube 10. By this means the head 14 is supported on the balls in the race 12 so that it can be easily revolved.
Secured to the head 14 are the U-shaped hinge brackets 16. There are a plurality of leaves 17, each of which has a hinge bracket 1S detachably connected by pivot bolts 19 to the hinge brackets 16 whereby said leaves may be disposed in vertical or more or less horizontal positions. A leaf support 20 is provided for each leaf 17 these being preferably of triangular form whose cross-piece is journaled in brackets 21, and whose foot 22 is adapted to be received in one of the holes 6 or in any one of as many holes 23 disposed circularly of the column 2 as it may be found desirable to use. One aperture 23 would suffice. the aperture 6, the ring 5, leaf support 20, leaves 17, and head 141, are all adapted to rotate as a unit, but any leaf can be raised and its point 22 inserted in an aperture 23 so as to support that leaf in more or less horizontal and displaying position, thus locking the leaves on acount of the column 2 being stationary but permitting instant release and the turning of the device to bring any other leaf 17 into position, or, if all of the leaves are stepped in the ring 5, the entire stand can be turned to any position.
It will be understood that the leaves 17 can be used for the display of any articles, but these leaves are preferably elongated and shaped for the convenient support of trousers whose lower ends are designed to be disposed at the upper and inner ends of said leaves.
To hold the trousers in position there is provided on each leaf a U-shaped clamp 24 one of whose arms has apertures 25 and the other notches 26. A clamping bar 27 which has a pin 28 at one end and a notch 29 near its other end is adapted to be engaged with the apertures and notches in any position to hold the garments on the leaves,
When the points or feet- 22 are in ready for easy removal upon swinging the I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a display stand, the combination with a standard or column, of a revoluble head mounted thereon, a plurality of leaves hinged to said head and adapted to be disposed either in general vertical or general horizontal position, means carried by the leaves for holding the articles to be dis played, independent supporting devices interposed between the leaves and the columns, adapted for supporting the leaves in raised position, and a rotary support adapted to be engaged by said supporting devices whereby I' vthe supporting` devices, leaves, and head may rotate as a unit.
2. In a stationary display stand, the oombination with a standard or column, of a head revolubly mounted thereon, a plurality ot' leaves hinged to said head and adapted to be disposed either in general vertical or general horizontal position, means carried by the leaves for holding the articles to be displayed, a rotary device loose on the column, leaf supports carried by the respective leaves and adapted to be supported by said rotary device when the leaves are in lowered position, and means on the column adapted to engage the leaf supports to hold the leaves in raised position.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
