L. PAFF. DISPLAY RAGK FOR GARPETS, 01L GLOTHS, &c.
No. 449,230. r Patented Mar. 31,1891.
UNITED STATES ATENI rrrca.
LAIVRENOE PAI I OF BEAVER FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPLAY-RACK FOR CARPETS, OlL-CLOTHS, 84G.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 449,230, dated March 31, 1891.
Application filed June 25, 1890. Serial No. 356,632. (No model.)
To all whom if; may concern-.-
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE PAFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver Falls, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Racks for Carpets, Oil-Cloths, (be; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompany ng drawings, which form a part of this speclfication.
My invention relates to an improved carpet and oil-cloth display-rack; and it consists in certain details of construction and combination of parts, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying draw1ngs,h1gure l is a front elevation of my improved rack partly in section, which is constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, shown partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a face View of one of the forks used as a bearing for one end of a roll of carpet.
To put my invention into practice I pro vide two base-plates a, and attach thereto by means of screw-threads vertical tubes (1 0, arranged in a manner that the front set 0 are farther apart than the rear set I). On the top of these tubes are placed two cross-bars d, connected together by a tube 6. Secured a short distance above the base of these standards I) c are two cross-pieces f, each of which may be adjusted vertically and held rigidly in any desired position by means of set-screws g. I now providea set of for ks 71, ha ing an outwardly-projecting flange t and a short shaft 7r, with a means for connecting an ordinary crank thereto. These forks h are adapted to be placed in the-ends of a large roll of carpet and placed in the crosspieces f in the rack. Adjustably secured to the two forward standards 0 of the rack by means of set-screws Z are brackets m, having hinged to each a bearing a, which are also provided with forks 0, adapted to enter the ends of a roll of oil-cloth and be supported on the two brackets m. These bearings 01 are provided with a slot 19 and a sliding plate q, actuated by a spring 0, which when elevated will permit the collar .9 on the forkshaft t to enter and be confined therein when the said plate is lowered.
By means of this rack carpets, oil-c1oths,&c., may be easily displayed for sale, and readily rerolled.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The herein-described display-rack, consisting of the standards I) c and base-plates a, the cross-bar e and top plates (1, the bearings f, adjustably secured 011 the said standards and each having a fork h journaled therein, the adjustable brackets m, provided with journaled forks 0, and the lock-hearings n, substantially as set forth and described.
2. In a display-rack,the combination of two pairs of standards, the vertically-adjustable cross-pieces adapted to be rigidly clamped thereto, and the rotatable forks loosely journaled in suitable bearings on said adjustable cross-pieces, substantially as described.
3. In a display-rack, the combination of the standards, the vertically-adjustable brackets rigidly secured to said standards, the swiveled arms carried by said brackets, and the rotatable forks loosely journaled in the swiveled arms, substantially as described.
4. In a display-rack, the combination of the standards, the supports rigid with said standards, the swivele'd arms carried by said supports and provided with bearings, and the rotatable forks loosely journaled in said bearings and reniovably secured thereto, substantially as described.
5. In a display-rack, the combination of two pairs of uprightstandards, the vertically-ad justable supports f, rigidly clamped to said standards and carrying the rotatable forks, and the brackets m, also clamped to the stan dards and having the swiveled bearings provided with rotatable forks 0, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto affix my signature this 18th day of April, A. D. 1890.
LAWRENCE PAFF. [L. s]
