PATENTED JAN. 9, 1906.
' I 9. J. DERRSGHMIDT. ADJUSTABLE HOLDER FOR DRAWING MODELS AND THE LIKE.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADJUSTABLE HOLDER FOR DRAWING MODELS AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 9, 1906.
Application filed April 16, 1904:. $eria1No. 203,515.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAV JULIUS DARR- SCHMIDT, a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Grossenhaincrstrasse 109, Dresden-Pieschen, Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Holders for Drawing Models and the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itpertains to make and use it,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
It is well known that the preparation of perspective drawings from models presents great difficulties to the pupil. These ditficulties can only be surmounted by the pupil drawing the subject from various points of view and by reading off on an angular scale what angle of inclination to him the model occupies. Continued exercise will then en able him to correctly reproduce in perspective any object at whatever angle of inclination it may stand.
The subject of my invention is a modelholder which not only admits of the model being turned in all directions, but also enables it to be moved in any desired curve across the field of vision of the draftsman and be there fixed, the angles of inclination being read off on scales.
My invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure shows a perspective elevation of the apparatus with partly-broken-ofi support.
a is a support or stand upon which is mounted a socket c, carrying the disk d, provided with a scale and having a pin 1), which turns in the support a and can be secured in any desired position by a set-screw. Into the socket 0 there fits the pin e of the disk f, provided with a scale, and pivotally secured to the back of the disk f by a screw and thumb-nut is a disk h, having a socket g,
with disk '2', marked with a scale. In the socket 9 there turns the pin 76 of the disk Z, which has likewise a scale marked on it and is pivotally secured to the disk m by means of screw and thumb-nut. The disk m is provided above with a socket n to receive the pin of the model. In this manner it is possible to set the model in all possible inclined positions and angles and to determine such positions and angles by means of the four scales. In order to provide a simpler and cheaper apparatus, I may in some cases dispense with the disk f and pin e and disk It with socket g and insert the pin 7r directly into the socket c. v
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. An adjustable holder for drawing models, comprising a horizontal disk provided with a scale, a vertical disk provided with a scale, pivotally mounted at the center of said horizontal disk, and a holding device pivotally secured to the said vertical disk with capability of turning in a vertical plane, substantially as described.
2. An adjustable holder for drawing models comprising a horizontal disk (1 a vertical disk f pivotally mounted at the center of said horizontal disk (2, a second horizontal disk 1'. pivotally secured to the said vertical disk f, a second vertical disk Z pivotally mounted at the center of saidhorizontal disk i, all the said disks (1ft Z being provided with scales, and a holding device pivotally secured to the said disk l with capability of turning in a vertical plane, all substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
