O. L. GRAP. DRUGGISTS PRESCRIPTION FILE.
Patented Oct. 27, 1896.
ATTORNEYS R Nrrnn STATES ATENT .FFICE.
CHARLES LOUIS GRAF, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
DRUGGISTS PRESCRIPTION-FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 570,308, dated October 2'7, 1896.
Application filedlebruary 19, 1896. Serial No. 579,908- (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES LOUIS GRAF, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Druggists Prescription-File, of which the following is a specification. I
My invention is in the nature of a simple, inexpensive, and neat prescription-holder, in which the prescription sheet or card can be uniformly and compactly held, and which can be quickly opened out to enable the druggist to quickly locate a particular sheet or card and the pointed file pin or rod set in position for the insertion of the sheet or card thereon.
My invention also has for its object to provide a holder having the pointed card-receiving rod adapted to be folded inside the holder proper and held locked from movement when the top is thrown back.
With other objects in view, which will hereinafter be referred to, my invention consists in a device for the purpose stated constructed in the peculiar and novel manner first described in detail and then specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,in which Figure l is a perspective View of my improvement in a closed position. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing the cover thrown back and the file-rod held down. Fig. 3 is asimilar View showing the rod-holder turned out to admit of access to the files orprescriptionsheets. Fig. 4. is a transverse sectional view. Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating a nest of boxes.
In its practical construction my improvement comprises a box-like body formed of a bottom member A, having one rigidlyconnected side member B and end members 0, which has its inner face rabbeted at c to form stop edges 0 o for the bottom, top, and side pieces, as clearly shown in the drawings, such member also having near the edge adjacent the movable side member a vertical groove or seat 0 for a purpose presently explained.
The side member D is hinged to the bottom member A, and has fixedly connected thereto the top member E, such side and top members D and E being braced by suitable angleplates F F, as shown. The end G, which is hinged to the bottom, is also provided with rabbeted edges g, to fit close against the top and side members, and to such end Gnear the cover edge is fixedly secured the pointed rod or needle '11, which is of a length equal that of the internal length of the box, the end It fitting in the slot or recess in the end C when the said end G is closed, as clearly shown in Fig. 4. I
I indicates a latch or detent to hold the end G to its closed position, and J a catch for holding the top closed.
The outer face of the end 0 has a combined draw-pull and labelholder K, as clearly shown in Fig. 1..
The manner in which my improved device is used is best explained as follows: When closed up, as shown in Fig. l, the holders can be conveniently shoved into suitable pigeonholes or pockets of a size suitable to receive the same, their ends 0 being exposed, whereby by pulling in the member K the desired box or holder can be quickly drawn out. After being drawn out by opening out the hinged top and side portions, as shown in Fig. 2, the prescription tablets or cards will beheld for easy access to locate the desired prescription. After the desired prescriptionsheet is located it can be readily turned out in sight, as shown.
When it is desired to remove any of the prescription-sheets or place additional ones on the file, the end G is turned to a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 3.
It will be readily apparent my improved holder provides a simple and effective means for keeping the files in a compact and clean condition, easy of access and readily removed or replaced.
By providing a guide for the front end of the file-rod when closed down, the same cannot be bent or easily broken off the end G.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A holder for the purpose described, comprising a box having a hinged end and cover, said hinged end being adapted to open outward and carrying a file-rod, substantially as shown and described.
' 2. A file-holder comprising a box, having a fixed side, bottom and end member, a hinged end member having a file-rod secured a side member fixedly connected, an end member hinged to the bottom, a file-pin secured to such member near one edge, adapted when folded down to form a longitudinal keeper disposed at one side of the box, and a cover formed of a side and top portion hinged to the bottom at the keeper side as set forth.
5. The combination with the bottom A, side 13, end O, of the hinged end G, having a file pin or red a detent for holding such end G, in a closed position, and the combined side and top member hinged to the bottom and catch member for holding such cover closed as set forth.
CHARLES LOUIS GRAF.
