(No Model.\
G. E. GRIMM. GORE FOR RIBBON ROLLS.
Patented Sept. 15, 1896i Fla!" illustrating in the manner common in making mailing- UNITED STATES lERllARiYl u. GRIMM, or
Application filed oetober 4, 1895. i i "n" T/ all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEHHARDT E. Gl-tlMM, a eitizen of; the United Slates, residing in (Jamden; New Jersey, have invented Improvements in Cores for Ribbon-Rolls, &c. of. which the following is a specification.
The object of my in vention-is to providea strong, light, and cheap cylindrical box-like structl-ire, especially adapted as a core upon which ribbons, tapes, and the like can be wound, although availablel'or other uses; This object I. attain by means of a structure of paper comprising a cylindrical shell or body, opposite end disks, upon which the ends of said cylindrical body are inturned, and an interior support, preferably in the form of an internal bracii'ig-frame ol' angular form, as fully set forth hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of in y improved paper box or core for ribbon-rolls or thelike, showing parts of the outer-shell and one of the end disks broken away in order to illustrate part of the internal supporting-l'rame. Fig. 2is a vertical sectional view of the structure. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view on the lines I Fig. 2; and Figs. 4: to 9, inclusive, are views modified forms of internal support for the end disks or heads.
The structure shownin Figs. comprises an outer cylindrical formed of paper,
2, and .u easing A, preferably by eoilin g a strip tubes and the like. \Vithin this cylindrical shell is a square frame B, likewise of paper and slightly less in length than the shell or casing A. Seated upon the opposite endsot this internal frame B are disks D, of paper, of the same diameter as the internal diameter of the shell A, these disks being lirmly retained in place against the ends of the internal frame I) by turning in the projecting ends of the shell A over the same, as shown at ain Figs. 1 and 2. The angles of the internal frame 15 bear against the inner face of the shell A and thus serve to brace and stiffen the same.
A structure of this character light, and extremely strong, presents a very acceptable is cheap, and therefore substitute for the CORE FOR RIBBON-ROLLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.
AT NT; QFFICE;
CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY.
567,898, dated September 15, 1896. Serial Nu. 564,658. No mallet} blocks ortubes t'or ribbon-rollsaml the like, although it is available also for other uses, forinstance, as a box for powdered or. granular substance.
Althoughlprel'er to adopt the square form i'orthe internalsupportingand bracii'ig frame ll, other l'orms of angular cross-section may be adopted without departing .l'rom my invention. For instance, in Fig. 4 I have illustrated an internal frame 1 of triangular form, while in Fig. 5 I have shown an internal frame 13, having nine sides, and in Figs. 6 and 7 l have shown an internal frame composed of two strips J3", crossing each other at right angles and interloclwd at the crossing-point. v
While-theangular form ol. internal "supporting-frame is always preferred, it is not absolutely essential to the broadest embodiment of my inventiorn'as a circular shell, slightly less in diameter than the outer shell A, such, for instance, as shown at l3 in Fig. 8, may be used, if desired or the internal support mighteven in some cases be made on the outer shell itself, as, for instance, in the form of an interi'lal rib, as shown at l) in Fig. 9.
llaving thus described my invention, 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- l. The within-described paper box or core, said box or core consisting of a cylindrical body or shell, end disks upon which the ends ol'said cylindrical body or shcllare inturned, and an internal support forcing said. disks against said inturncd edges, substantially as specifier-l.
2. The within-described paper box. or core, said box. or core of said cylindrical body or shell areinturntd, and an internal supportlug-frame, independent of the outer shell, forcing said disks against said inturned edges, substantially as specified. I
3. The within-described paper box orcore, said bon or core consisting of a cylindrical body or shell, end disks upon which the ends of said cylindricalbody oi" shell are inturncd, and an internal supporting and bracing usually employed as cores consisting ol. a c -'li1,ldri(,-al; body or shell, end disks upon which the ends frame of angular form the angies or lateral extremitiesof said fi'ainebearing against the inner wail of said cylindrical body, and the ends of he frame forcing the end disks 5 against said intui-ned edges of the body or shell, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses GERiL-\RDT ii. HRIMM. \Vitnesses:
\YILL. A. BARR, Jos. ii. KLEIN.
