SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 567,855, dated September 15, 1896.

7 To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES W. GREGG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of lVayne and State of Michigan, have in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

The invention consists in the construction of a corset, and particularly relates to the construction of the back, which is provided with lacing-apertures, a lacing-cord, and flaps to cover the lacing-apertures and the cord, so that the cord, even in well-fitting dresses, does not show through.

The invention further consists-in the con struction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter described.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the back edges of a corset, partly broken away, and Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the same.

A is the back of the corset. To each edge thereof is secured the back-section B, looped as shown at C, to embrace in the edge of the loop the edge stay D.

E is a stay parallel to the stay D, separated therefrom, and which is preferably heldbetween the section B and the flap F, a pocket therefor bein g formed by sewing through both of these sections on each side of the stay. Between the stays are the eyelets G, through which the lacing-cord, preferably a flat cord, is adapted to be laced. The flapF is of sufficient Width to cover the eyelets and the edge or back stay and such portion of the lacingcord as passes through the eyelets and over this stay. The result is that where-the corset is used under a close-fitting dress the la- 0 cing-cord is covered by the flap and cannot be seen through the dress in the shape of ridges, as is the case with the construction which does not employ such covering-flaps.

What I claim as my invention is-- In a corset, the combination with the back, of a back-section secured thereto and formed with a loop and lacing-apertures, a lacingstay secured in said loop, a flap of substantially the width of said back-section secured to the back and to the back-section and forming with said back-section a pocket, and a second stay in said pocket, substantially as described.
