Description

(No Model.)
A.-FOSGATE. HAIR GURLER. N0. 567,767. 7 Patented Sept. 15, 1896.
WITNESSES: 7 IIIYENTUR UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED FOSGATE, OF AUBURN, NEW YORK.
HAlR-CURLER! SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 567,767, dated September 15, 1896. Application'filed October 24, 1895- $eria1 No. 566,680. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED FOSGATE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Auburn, in the county of Cayuga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair Curlers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to devices for curling hair, and particularly to mustache-curlers; and the object thereof is to provide an effective device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and comparatively inexpensive; and with this and other objects in view the invention comprises the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which-- Figure 1 is a side view of my improved mustache-curler; Fig. 2, a central vertical section thereof; Fig. 3, a plan view; Fig. 4, a central vertical section of a modified form of construction.
In the practice of my invention I provide two plates or disks A, which are united centrally by a rivet or bolt B, and which are convex on their inner or adjacent sides, as shown at a, and also concave on their outer sides, as shown at at. The plates or disksB may be composed of any desired material, such as metal, rubber, wood, or the like, and in Fig. 4 is shown a modified form of construction, in which the plates or disks are formed integrablly, being united at the center, as shown at The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
The ends of the mustache are drawn down between the plates or disks. B, and the device is turned so as to wind the mustache between them, where it will be held by friction any desired length of time, and, if desired, the device may be heated in the usual manner, but in this event it must be made of metal, as will be readily understood; but one of the objects of the invention is to avoid injuring the hair by means of a hot rod or similar device.
My invention, as will be seen, constitutes an effective device, and one that is preferably adapted to accomplish the result for which it is intended. It may also be used with far less trouble and inconvenience than other devices of this class, and although I describe the same as a mustache-curler it is evident that it may be employed for the general purpose of curling hair.
My invention is not limited to the exact form, construction, and arrangement of parts as herein shown and described, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modifications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a mustache or hair curler comprising the concavo-convex disks having their convex surfaces secured together at their points of contact, substantially as described.
In testimonythat I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 22d day of October, 1895.
ALFRED FOSGATE.
