CLIP FOR DISPLAY OF PRICE-CARDS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,799, dated July 28, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, IRVING H. PEOK, of Derby, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have in vented a new Improvement in Clips for the Display of Price-Cards; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-

My invention relates to an improvement in clips designed with particular reference to use in attaching price tags or cards to the various articles of merchandise displayed for sale in shops, the object-being to produce at a low cost for manufacture a simple, convenient, and effective clip.

With these ends in viewmy invention consists in a price-card clip having certain details of construction, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.

In carrying out my invention as herein shown, I take a single length of wire and bend it a little to one side of its longitudinal center to form a loop A, which is preferably contracted above its lower end. The shorter end of the wire is bent rearward and then downward back of the loop, so as to stand directly behindand in close proximity thereto, and roughened upon its forward face, as at b, and forms a spring gripping-finger B and acts with the rear face of the loop to grip and hold a price-card C, as shown in Fig. 3. The said gripping-finger B is longitudinally bowed, located in a plane at a right angle to the plane of the loop, and terminates at its lower end at or about the lower end thereof. The longer end of the wire is bent rearward and then downward and slightly outward, and pointed, and forms a retaining-pin D, by means of which the clip is secured to the article upon which the price-card is to be displayed, the said pin being located behind the grippingfinger 13, before mentioned. As herein shown, the bend B, formed at the upper end or base of the gripping-finger B, is set so as to stand directly in front of and close to the base of the said pin D and coacts therewith in securing a bite-upon the fabric E to which the clip is applied, as shown in Fig. 3.

The fabric is crowded beyond the bend B into the space D, formed between it and the bend D formed between the base of the pin and the loop A, the bend D being larger than the bend B by the thickness of the wire which permits the bend B to be set within the base of the pin. It will be observed that the bends B and D before mentioned, are located in planes at substantially a right angle to the plane of the loop. It is not essential, however, that the wire shall be bent so as to grip the fabric to which the clip is applied, though when constructed as shown the clip is prevented from being accidentally detached from the article by being lifted upward.

I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown, but hold myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.

Having fully described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a clip for the display of price-cards, &c., formed from a single piece of wire and consisting of a loop, a longitudinally-bowed, spring,-gripping-finger, and a retaining-pin, the said loop being formed from the middle portion of the wire, the longitudinally-bowed, spring, gripping-finger being formed from one end of the wire, located directly behind the loop in a plane at a right angle thereto, terminating at the lower end thereof, and coacting with the inner face thereof to hold a pricecard, and the retaining-pin being formed from the other end of the wire and located behind the said spring, gripping-finger, substantially as described. 4

2. A clip for the display of price-cards, 850., formed from a single piece of wire, and comprising aloop, a longitudinally-bowed,spring, gripping-finger, and a retaining-pin, the loop being formed from the middle portion of the wire, the longitudinally-bowed, spring, gripping-finger being formed from one end of the wire, located directly behind the loop in a IOO 10 bends at the bases of the spring-finger and pin being located in planes at substantially a right angle to the plane of the loop, substantially as described.
