JOSEPH JAMES REID, OF SALINEVILLE, OHIO.
DEVICE FOR DISPLAYING LACE CURTAINS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 564,451, dated July 21, 1896.
Application filed May 2, 1896. Serial No. 589,945. (No model.) i
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J AMES REID, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salineville, in the county of Oolumbiana and Figure 1 is a View showing the frame and center bar, also showing a number of the curtain-holdin g arms connected thereto and their supportingsegments. Fig. 2 is a detached view showing the inner portions of a setof curtain-arms. Fig. 3 is a View showing the bottom or lower portion of the center bar and a vertical section of its supporting-socket. Fig. 4c is a side View showing a vertical section of the curtain-arms and the manner of connecting the arms to the center bar. Fig. 5 is a view showing one set of the curt-ainarms disconnected at their hinged ends. Fig. 6 is a view showing one set of the curtainarms properly hinged to the center bar,
The present invention has relation to devices for displaying lace curtains; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
Similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the supporting-frame, which may be of any desired size, reference being had to the size of the device designed to be constructed, and is preferably formed of four bars properly connected together to form a rectangular frame, but its construction is not absolutely necessary, as the objects and purposes of the present invention can be carried out without any particular reference to the shape and exact construction of the supporting-frame.
The supporting-frame 1 is properly attached to a suitable support, such as the Vertical wall of the room, at any sufficient and suitable place, and it should be connected firmly to properly carry out the purposes hereinafter described. To the frame 1 is attached the center bar 2, which center bar is connected to the top and bottom members of the frame 1, substantially as illustrated in the drawings. The inner ends of each of the curtain-arms 3 are hinged to the bar 2, said bars being provided with the eyes 4:, 5, and 6. For the purpose of providing proper hinged connection and at the same time to locate each set of the curtain-arms so that they will come side by side, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the eyes 4 and 6 are reversed, as illustrated in Fig. 6, thereby permitting said arms to be folded, as illustrated in Fig. 2.
For the purpose of providing proper supports for the curtain-arms 3 the segments 7 are provided, which segments are connected to the frame 1, the number of segments corresponding to the number of sets of curtainarms 3.
For the purpose of causing each set of ourtain-arms to act independent of the set just above or below, the pins 8 are provided, which pins are passed through apertures formed through the center bar 2. For 'the purpose of providing an easy movement for the arms the washers 9 are provided, which washers are placed upon the center bar 2 and are located between each set of the curtain-arms. For the purpose of properly protecting the curtains from dust and dirt when the device is not in use and when all the curtain-arms are turned to one side of the frame 1, the upper arm 10 is provided, to which upper arm is attached a curtain or section of cloth formed of proper material to properly cover the lace curtains.
In use the frame 1 is properly attached at any desired place, and the curtains designed to be displayed are hung upon the arms 3, and when not in use the arms are turned so as to bring them all upon one side of the frame, thereby causing the curtains to hang side by side.
When it is desired to display the curtains, the front arm 3 of the lower set is turned so as to bring the curtain uponthe opposite side of the frame, and as many of the arms turned together with the curtains located thereon as desired, after which the arms are again folded or turned so as to bring all of them and their curtains upon one side of the frame.
It will be understood that before the curtains are displayed the arm 10, together with its covering-curtain 11, should be first turned so as to bring it out of the way of the lace curtains. In the drawings I have illustrated three arms as constituting each set of the curtain-arms, but it will be understood that a greater or less number may be employed in constituting each set.
When it is desired to displaya large number of curtains, more arms may be added, thereby providing for a large variety of curtains. It will also be understood that I do not desire to be confined to the number of sets of arms, inasmuch as the number is immaterial. Itwill also be understood that the order of turning the curtain-arms may be reversed; that is to say, the front arm of the upper set may be firstt11rncd,thereby turning the upper curtains first instead of the lower ones, but it will be understood that when this is done the upper curtain must be upon the outside of the curtains that are hung side by side.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device for displaying lace curtains the combination of a frame having connected thereto a series of segments located upon the front side of the frame, the center bar 2, connected. to the top and bottom members of the frame, the curtain-arms 3, formed in pairs or sets and provided with the eyes 4, 5, and 6, the pins 8, secured to the center bar and located between the pairs of curtain arms, and the washers 9, and the arm 10, provided with a curtain or cover, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses,
J OSEPII JAMES REID.
