Description

(No M0991.) I J. H. NITZSOH E. DEVIGE FOR RAISING 0R LOWERING CURTAINS, &0-
.No. 563,299. Patented ul 7, 1996.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHANN HERMANN NITZSCHE, OF LEIPSIO, GERMANY.
- DEVICE FOR RAISING OR LOWERING CURTAINS, 86C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 563,299, dated July 7, 1896.
Application filed May 9, 1895. $erial No. 548,654. (NomodeL) I freely, said straps being fastened with one To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OHANN HERMANN N ITZsoHE, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Leipsic-Reudnitz, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain Improvements in Devices for Raising orLowering Curtains, Shades, &c., and for adjusting the carriers to any width of windows, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention comprises a device by means of which curtains, shades, and the like for windows or doors may be raised or lowered with the greatest ease, for repair or for exchanging the curtains.
The moldings or plates and the curtainrods employed in this device to carry the curtains, &c., are made adjustable, so that they may be adapted to any width of door or window.
The invention is represented in a practical form by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation showing the curtain half down. Fig. 2 is a view from below of a plate.
The plate a, fastened in the ordinary way above the door or window by hooks or clamps, is made adjustable by using two parts adapted to be displaced upon each other. To this end thumb-screws b are fixed in one part and are guided in longitudinal slots in the other part, as shown;
The board or molding c and the curtain-rod cl can be extended in the same manner, or the curtain-rod can be made of a solid rod sliding in a tube.
Both parts of plate a are provided with rollers e, over which the straps or belts g run end to the board 0 and with the other end to the periphery of a roller on a shaft f, which also receives a winding-cord h, by which it may be revolved when a pull is given to the hanging end of the same. The straps gmay be provided with buckles or the like to adjust their lengths, so that the board 0 may be always in horizontal position.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. A device for raising and lowering curtains and the like consisting of the combination of an extensible board 0 having clamps and bearings, an extensible rod (1 held in said bearings and adapted tosupport the curtain, a fixed extensible molding a adapted to fit in a window or other opening, and suspension devices connecting said board and molding and adapted for hoisting the former, substantially as set forth.
2. A device for raising and lowering curtains consisting of a fixed extensible molding a, an extensible board 0 having an extensible rod adapted to sustain a curtain, pulleys e on said molding, a double roller or drum on said molding, cords g attached to said board, passing over the pulleys and having their ends attached to a part of the drum, and a hoisting-cord h attached to the other part of the drum, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
