Description

v (No Model.)
C. L. MILLER. I VENBTIAN BLIND ROLLER SUPPORT.
Patented June 16, 1896.
A TTORNE Y 8.
ANDREW BYBRAMNL FNUTO-UTHQWASHINBTON {1C CHARLES L. MILLER,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
VENETlAN-BLlND-ROLLER SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 562,233, dated June 16, 1896.
Application filed October 23, 1895.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern;
Be it known that 1, CHARLES L. MILLER, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Venetian-Blind-Roller Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
I11 the ordinary method of hanging Venetian-blind rollers the said rollers are unsupported intermediate of their ends, and it is found that when long rollers are employed they will sag at the middle, and thus prevent an easy action of the same and also cause the slats of the blind to curve downward at the center.
The object of my invention is to prevent these difficulties or objections; and, broadly stated, my invention consists in an intermediate hanger or support for a Venetian-blind roller.
The invention further consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window and blind, and also shows a roller embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an elevation, on a large scale, of a portion of the roller and rocker-bar embodying the invention. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is'a transverse section and elevation showing a slight modification.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a window-casing and A the slats of a Venetian blind therein, secured together by flexible connections in the usual manner and depending from a rocker-bar A which has connection with the blind-roller A The roller A may have the usual end bearings in the window-casing; but intermediate of said end bearings I employ one or more hangers for said roller. I have here shown a single-intermediate hanger placed in the center of the roller. The hanger comprises a plate B, having a hook or other engaging device b at its upper end adapted to be engaged with an eye or staple secured to the window-casing, and the plate B of the hanger is pivotally mounted on a short sh aft 1), connected to socket-pieces b engaging with the adjacent ends of the two Serial No. 566,595. (No model.)
portions of the roller A The sockets b and the shaft 1) are made of suitable metal, and for the purpose of centering the plate B between the adjacent ends of the socket I provide the plate on opposite sides with hub-like projections 6 adapted to bear at the ends against the ends of the socket In this example of my improvement I have shown the rocker-bar A as having swinging connection with a downward projection 17 of the hangerplate B, the lower end of said projection being engaged with a pivot mounted in the bifurcated upper end of a metal clip 19 secured to the rocker-bar A In the example of my improvement shown in Fig. 4, however, Ihave omitted the lower extension b of the hanger, as I do not wish to be confined to the construction first described, as it is obvious that the rocker-bar may be otherwise supported.
It will be obvious from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings, that my invention embodies both a hanger and a coupling, whereby the two portions of the blind-roller may turn as one.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 7 1. A roller for a Venetian blind, made in sections and a hanger-plate having a pivotal connection with a portion extended between the adjacent ends of said roller-sections, and having a fastening device at its upper end adapted to be engaged with a device secured to a'window-casin g, substantially as specified.
2. The combination with aVenetian-blind roller made in sections, of sockets secured to the adjacent ends of said sections, a shaft extended from one socket to the other, and a hanger-plate pivoted on said shaft, having a fastening or engaging device at its upper end and having a downward projection adapted for pivotal engagement with the rocker-bar of a blind, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with a hanger-plate connected with a Venetian-blind roller and a rocker-bar, of a clip-plate secured to the rocker-bar, and having pivotal connection with a downward projection of the hangerplate, substantially as specified.
CHARLES L. MILLER.
