Be it known that l, HENRYD. KEITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Manifold Account and Sales Books; and l do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specilicatioinand to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The object and purpose of the present in volition are to provide a manifold account and sales book that will save time in bookkeeping, the merchant devoting one book to each regular credit customer, the several books properly marked being retained in asuitable cabinet, case, or rack adapted to the purpose, and in using the book the cost of goods ordered by customer maybe added to his or her past account, thereby giving both customer and merchant a complete balanced account.

rhich may be constructed of cardboard or of any suitable material found best adapted to the purpose, and G the support for the leafsection D, which support lies between said section and the leaf-section E when the two sections are in position. constructed from one and the saine piece of material, reinforcestrips a. b may be used a means of strengthening them, the strip a forming a reinforce to the bend or hinge between the back A and cover B, and the strip b to the back A and support C. The leaf-section D is firmly and suitably bound to the support C, and the reinforce-strip l) .may extend over and be bound with said leaf-section.

A carbon-sheet F is bound upon the leafsection D, and the leaves of the section are perforated for convenience in separating and removing them after the leaves have received their impression from the carbon-paper.

The back A and leaf-section E extend beyond the lower ends of the support C- and upper leaf-section D, so that when in position, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings, a margin or space, as indicated at c, will be left for the purpose of carrying forward the total of past accounts.

In using the book the first unused leaf of section E, after raising section D, is thrown back, and after section D is in the position as shown in Fig. l the thrown-back leaf is placed over and upon the carbondeaf. The total past account entered upon the bottom of the unused leaf. is carried to the top thereof and added in with the cost 'of the goods purchased at that time, after which the leaf of section D containing the carbon-copy is removed and sent with goods to the customer, the original upon the leaf of section E being retained in the bool; and the total thereon carried forward to the exposed margin of said section, as indicated at c.

It will be noticed that the two leaf-sections are connected at right angles to each other, giving the advantage of raising leaf-section D to an upright position, or, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, to allow of the easy and convenient raising and placing of the unused leaves of sectionEin position over and upon the carbon-sheet.

The cover connects with the back at the side thereof instead of at the end, giving the advantages in the use of the book as above described.

he back, cover, and the support being cut or stamped from one and the saine piece of material materiallT decreases the cost of manu- IOO facture, as the use of hinges or separate pieces for connecting together these parts are rendered entirely unnecessary, which not only enables the book to be produced at a miniinuln cost, by having the support formed integral with the back and cover, but provides a much stronger, more durable, and convenient book for the purpose intended. The npper leaf-section, as will be noticed, connects with the end of the back at the right-hand side oi' the book, thereby enabling, the book to be more conveniently handled and used.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A manifold account and sales book, consisting of a back, cover, and a support forin ed of one and the saine piece of material, an upper leaf-section and a lower independent leaf-section connecting therewith at right support and upper leaf-section, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
