Description

UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE.
FRANK J. GORRIS, OF INDEPENDENCE, OHIO.
GRIPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.\560,'7'08, dated May 26, 1896.
Application iiled March 9, 1896. Serial No. 582,477. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK J. GORRIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Independence, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grippers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to gripping devices; and it consists in the new construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new gripping device. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
A is a flat bar, and B B are two bars pivotally attached to it by bolts or fixed pins and nuts b b.
O C are also two flat bars pivotally attached to the opposite ends of the bars B B by means of bolts c c.
D is an eyebar pivotally attached to said bars C C, to which power is to be applied for operating the gripper, as hereinafter shown.
E E are strong pins or fingers attached to each of the bars B B over their pivotal connection with the bar A. A
'F is a spring attached to bar A, for a purpose hereinafter shown.
This device is specially adapted as a gripper for pulling trolley and other wires and is very easily and readily operated by placing it on a wire, as shown, with the wire between the lingers. The spring is designed simply for turning the bars B B to slightly grip the wire to prevent its falling oif if left to itself.
Now by applying power to the eyebar the grip is forcibly tightened on the wire and cannot possibly slip, the iingers pressing the wire in the direction of the arrows.
Having described my invention, I claim- The gripping device consisting of the bar A, bars B B pivotally attached to bar A, grip: fingers E E attached to the bars B B over the pivots b b, bars C C pivotally attached to the opposite ends of bars B B, the eyebar D, pivotally attached to the bars C C, and the spring F attached to bar A and bearing against the sides of bars B B, all constructed to operate as and for the purpose set forth.
FRANK J. GoREIs.
