f NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HANS TOBIASON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HARNESS-SADDLE.
SPECIFICATION iorming part of Letters Patent NO. 559,917, dated May 12, 1896.
Application filed November 23, 1895. Serial No- 569,881. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, HANS TOBIASON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Saddles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improve ments in harness-saddles, the purpose of which is to make the same more comfortable for the horse and prevent the wearing away of the skin upon the horses back, which is so common in the use of the saddles commonly employed.
To such end the invention consists in certain novel features, which will .be fully described below and pointed out in the appended claims.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings by means of five figures, of which- Figure l is a front elevation of a harnesssaddle, showing my improvement. Fig. 2 is an under plan of the same with one of the pads removed. Fig. 3 is a section in line 3 3 of Fig. l. lfig. .JC is a section in line 1t l of Fig. l, and Fig. 5 is a section in line 5 of Fig.
In these drawings the frame of the saddle is shown at A, and contains the ordinary terret-rings B B' and check-hook C. Upon the under side of the frame are two guides D D', which are preferably flaring downwardly in shape, and upon these guides are mounted two slides E E', fitted thereto and provided with set-screws F F' to clamp them at any desired point. To these slides are pivoted the pads G G', by means of staples g, inclosing laterally-extending lugs or gudgeons e upon the slides. Between the pads and the frame are rings H Il', encircling the slides E E' and providing means for the attachment of the saddle-skirts of the harness. These rings are supported, one from the other, by means of a strap 7L. Y
In use the pads G G' may be adjusted so as to rest upon any desired portion of the horses back, and may be shifted from one place to another as often as desirable. Their pivotal attachment causes them to rest evenly upon any portion of the back which they may happen to strike.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-` 1. The combination with a harness-saddle of two or more slides adjustably secured thereto and pads pivoted to the slides; substantially as described.
The combination with a harness-saddle of the guides D, D', the slides, E, E', adjustable thereon, and the pads, G, G', pivoted to the slides; substantially as described.
3. The combination with the harness-saddle, A, of the guides, D, D', the slides, E, E', having the set-screws, F F', and the lugs, e, and the pads, G, G', having the staple, g; substantially as described.
Y HANS TOBIASON.
