Beit known that we,.OTTO HENRY HUEBEL and FREDERICK WILLIAM MANGER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Pincushion and and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled iu the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to an improvement in a combined pincushion and thimble and spool holder, the object being to provide a device which can be quickly and easily attached to or detached from the table of a sewing-machine or other object and when in an attached position be retained against accidental displacement.

A further object is to so construct and arrange the several parts that a neat and attractive as well as a durable and useful device will be obtained.

Vith these ends in view our invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a view of our improvement as applied to the table of a sewing-machine or other object, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view of said improvement.

A represents a saucer-shaped receptacle constructed of any suitable material, the bottom of which is provided with an opening through which projects a post or standard l, preferably screw-threaded, as shown in the drawings. The lower end of this post or standard is attached to the upper arm or leaf of spring 2, while its upper end is adapted to receive and support an ornamental cap 3, which latter is adapted to support a thinible. lnterposed between the bottom face of receptacle A and the top face of the upper arm of spring 2 is a washer 4, the bottom face of which is preferably soldered or otherwise secured to spring 2, while its upper face constitutes an extended bearing-surface for the bottoni of receptacle A. This washer may be, if desired, cast integral with receptacle A.

Spring 2 is preferably of the formshown in the drawings, in which 5 represents the upper straight arm thereof, which constitutes an extended bearing-surface for our improvement when in the position shown in Fig. 2, and G is the semicircular portion of said spring, while 7 indicates the remaining portion thereof, which is bent upwardly and downwardly, respectively, and performs the function of clamping the device thereto attached in its operative position.

Located within receptacle A'is a disk 8, which latter is provided with a central opening through which projects post or standard l. Standard or post l also extends centrally through and projects above pincushion 9, the bottom of which latter rests on disk 8, while Y a portion of the sides thereof adjacent to said bottom are in contact with the interior surface of receptacle A, thus presenting a neat and attractive appearance at the juncture of the cushion and receptacle. After cushion 9 has been placed in position cap 3 is screwed or otherwise fastened on standard l, thus completing the device. .Cap 3 not only performs the function of a support, but also that of preventing an upward movementon the part of cushion 9. By forcing cap 3 moderately tight on standard l cushion 9 will necessarily be caused to press firmly and evenly on disk 8, which in turn imparts said pressure to receptacle A, and hence lateral movement on the part of said receptacle is prevented.

Secured to the forward end of the upper leaf of spring 2 is a plate or bracket 10, provided with a series of upwardly-projecting posts 1l. These posts are adapted to support spools of cotton, silk, dto. This bracket or plate may, if desired, be cast integral with spring 2.

Itis evident that changes in the construction and relative arrangement of the several parts might be made without avoiding our invention, and hence we would have it under- 95 stood that we do not restrict ourselves to the particular construction and arrangement of parts shown and described; but,

Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. As an article of manufacture,a combined IOO upper end of this post which has the double function of holding the pinoushion on and of serving as a holder for a thimbie, substantially as set forth.

2. As an article of manufacture a combined pinoushion and thimbie-holder comprising a Clamp,

a post connected therewith and a cushion through which the post extends, the post holding the cushion in position and a cap secured on the upper protruding end of the post and serving as zt support for a thinible, substantially as set forth.
