LIQUID-HOLDER.
SPECIFICA'IION` forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,352, dated March 31, 1896.
Application filed September 4, 1894= To au whom, it' may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BENDEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a liquid-holder so constructed and operatively arranged that it at once subserves the purposes of several bottles or the like-'in other Words, to provide a device arranged to contain several kinds of liquid, each of which being separated from the other may be drawn off at will in any desired order. To accomplish this obj ect, the invention essentially embraces a subdivided bottle, flask, or the like, an adjustable or movable cap or closingpiece for the discharging end thereof, provided with a single suitable opening so disposed with reference to the motion of the closing-piece and the arrangement of the subdivisions that communication may be had with one subdivision While the other subdivisions are held securely closed, and an outlet or spout having communication by way of the said opening in said closing-piece with the interior of the bottle or iiask, all of which is hereinafter lfully set forth, and pointed out in the appended claim.

Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken through the neck thereof on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, the view being in the direction indicated by the arrows shown on said line. Fig. 3 is also a horizontal section taken through the liquiding in the direction indicated by the vertical arrows shown on said line. Fig. l is an outside elevation of the closing-piece and spout shown in said Figs. l and 2. Fig. 5 is a bottom plan View of said closing-piece and spout. Figs. 6 and 7 are details in side elevation and bottom plan, respectively, showing the cappiece, which I preferably employ as a bearing for the closing-piece.

To fully describe the details of construction and arrangement shown in the said several views, A indicates a bottle or flask formed desi rably of glass; A', subdivisions formed therein by means of integral partitions a; a', an external screw-thread formed at the upper termination of the flask; B, a metallic cappiece fixed, by means of an internal thread b formed in its annular overlapping portion ZJ',
to the upper threaded portion a of the flask;
b2, openings formed in the capping portion b3 of the part B, corresponding in number and position with the subdivisions A; b4, a'stem projected from the part b3, provided at its outer termination with a screw-thread b5, and g a flexible gasket interposed between the upper termination of the bottle or flask and the capping portion b3.
C refers to the closing-piece, movablyheld snugly to the cap-piece B by means of the stem b4 and nut and washer bs 57, respectively, (particularly shown in Fig. 1,) the stein passing through said part C through the opening c provided therein.
C indicates the outlet or spout carried by and forming part of the closing-piece C; c', a longitu dinally-movable nipple located within a suitable opening c2, provided in the part c, forming connection with said outlet c', and c3 a stud or pin having a head 7c, projected laterally from the nipple c,working in an elongated opening or slot c4 in the part C. The opening c3, which to all intents and purposes forms part of the said outlet C', being suitably counterbored and the nipple provided near its lower end with an annular ring c5, a spring c, desirably formed of soft rubber, is
kinterposed between said ring and the shoulder formed by said counterbore, the spring tending to normally force the nipple in the direction of the capping-piece, the office of the nipple obviously being to stop the motion of the closing-piece when in proper position with reference to the subdivisions and make close and complete connection between the outlet C and the openings b2 in the capping portion 3.
The opening c in the closing-piece C being counterbored near its outer end, as particularly shown in Fig. l, and a spring bs being IOO interposed around the stem b4, between the shoulder formed by the counterbore and the Washerlocated near the vupper end of the stem b4, the closing-piece C is held firmly against the cap-piece B.
The operation of the device is as follows: The nipple c' being raised by means of the pin the closing-piece is turned on thc stem b4 until the outlet C is located immediately in a desired subdivision. The pin then being freed the nipple by its lower end drops into the proper opening b3 and the desired fluid maybe drawn off, the remaining subdivisions being held closed against the escape of the iiuid or fluids which they contain.
It may be noted that While I have shown herewith and described herein a particular form of device I do not limit myself to the eX act details of construction shown and de scribed, as the same may be varied in many particulars Without deviating from the intent and scope of my invention.
I therefore claim as my invention and de sire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the iiuid-holderA hav ing two or more radially-arranged independent subdivisions A'; the cap-piece B fixed to the discharging end thereof provided with openings b2 corresponding in number and order of arrangement with said subdivisions; and the axially-movable closing-piece C working over the cap-piece B provided with an outlet or spout C', adapted tobe positioned to discharge the contents of either one of the subclivisions,\vhile the other subdivisions are held closed; substantially as set forth.
