SPINNING ATTACHMENT FOR SEWING-MACHINES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,1 10, dated March 31, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, BURNETTA CONNER, a citizen of the United States,residing at Hardy, in the county of Sharp and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spinning Attachments for Sewing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention consists of a spinning attachment attached to the bottom of a sewing-machine table. The band is shifted to the pulley of the attachment when I wish to use it. The attachment is not in the way when sewing with the machine.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a machine with my attachment secured to the under side of a table. Figs. 2, 8, and 4 are detail views.

My invention is described as follows I take a strip of metal A and bend it into two Us Ct at, the free ends turned at right angles, forming two horizontal flanges b. These flanges are perforated, and the metal so bent is secured to the bottom of the table by screws or other means. In the bottom of the Us a a are vertical perforations, through which are inserted the perforated necks c of bearings d. These necks are secured in place by split staples e. The spindle f is provided with recesses g, in which the bearings d work. The object of the recesses is to prevent the spindle from slipping endwise. Between the recesses is secured on said spindle a pulley h.

When I wish to use the attachment for spinning purposes, I throw the band of the machine; the strip of metal A, having the U-bends a, and perforated flanges 17, secured to the under face of the table; perforated bearings d, having perforated necks c, fitting in the perforations of the U -bends split staples e, fitting in the perforations of the necks c; spindle f, provided with recesses g, said recessed portion working in the perforated bearings d, and pulley h, rigidly secured on the spindle f, and adapted to be operated by the sewing-machine band, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes set forth.

In combination with a sewing-machine table and mechanism for operating a sewingmachine, the strip of metal A, having the U -bends a, and perforated flanges b,said strip secured to the under face of the table; bearings cl, secured in said U-bends; spindle f, working in said bearings and provided with a pulley-wheel h, adapted to be operated by the sewing-machine band, substantially as shown and described and for the purposes setforth.
