SPINNING MACHINE FOR DOMESTIC USE Filed Aug. 14, 1948 Fig. E
Patented Jan. 16, l1951 SPINNING MACHINE FOR DOMESTIC USE Paul Emile Caron, Matane, Quebec, lCanada Application August 14, 1948, Serial No. 44,261 In Canada April 6, 1948 1 claim. 1
My invention relates to spinning machines and refers more particularly to a spinning machine for domestic use.
We know that the spinning machines heretofore used for domestic spinning embody a large driving wheel revolving on two long supports mounted on a three legged stool and transmitting the movement to the twisting spool by means of a round, or V shaped belt. The said driving wheel is actuated by means of a treadle and a connecting rod.
That arrangement has several inconveniences being principally that the machine is cumbersome, awkward,V unstable, slow, does not run at a uniform speed, producing therefor an uneven thread, and is not adaptable to electric power driving.
The latter inconvenience is particularly grievous in view of the progressive electrification of farm homes and of the growing demand for electrically operated machines on the farm.
My invention removes those inconveniences, and an object thereof is to produce a spinning machine for domestic use mounted on a cabinet made of light metal, such as aluminum, and eliminating the drive wheel, the treadle, the connecting rod and the stool.
Another object of my invention is to produce a spinning machine for domestic use mounted on a cabinet, made of light metal, such as aluminum, and inclosing therein a small electric motor.
A further object of my invention'is to produce a spinning machine for domestic use mounted on a cabinet inclosing an electric motor and forming a compact unit with a bobbin filling attachment.
A still further object of my invention is to produce a spinning machine mounted on a cabinet and in which the driving motor, the driving pulleys and belts are inclosed therein and hidden from view.
A still further object of my invention is to produce a spinning machine for domestic use mounted on a cabinet made of light metal and having a smart appearance, taking little space and harmonizing with the furniture of a modern home.
Othe1l objects and advantages of the invention, in the combination, arrangement and function of parts, details of construction will be apparent as the description of the invention proceeds, which should be taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the machine.
Figure 2 is an end View thereof.
Referring to the drawings aforesaid with more 2 details, the invention embodies a base cabinet I, which may be made of light metaLsuch as aluminum and apt to receive a smooth or bright finish on its outer surface. It is rectangular in shape tapering towards its upper part and having a depression in its central part forming a ridge at each end thereof for supporting the twisting mechanism which comprises a spindle I5 with` guide wings I4, a spool 1 and their respective driving grooved pulleys 8 and 9. The said twisting mechanism revolves in the space f-ormed by the said depression.
The invention further comprises an electric motor 3 positioned on an adjustable shelf I0 disposed inside the base cabinet I and secured t0 the wall thereof by means of a hinge I2. A bolt I3 vertically secured to a bracket I I supports the shelf I0 and provides a means of raising or lowering it.
The movement for actuating the twisting mechanism is transmitted by means of two grooved pulleys 4 and 5 xed on the driving shaft of the motor 3 on which are engaged belts I8 running over the pulley 8 and spool l. The pulley 8 is secured on the spindle I5 by means of a nut I6. The pulley 9 is slightly smaller than the adjacent pulley 8 for causing the twisting spool 'I to run at a greater speed than the guide wings I4.
In combination therewith, the invention embodies pa bobbin winding attachment comprising a tapering spindle 22 having a grooved pulley 20 fixed at its end, and mounted at the end of a shank 2 I. The said shank is positioned over the base cabinet I, its legs resting on each side thereof, as represented in Figure 2. A twin grooved idle pulley 9 revolves on spindle I5 and is actuated by means of a belt I8 engaged on driving pulley 6. A belt I9 transmits the movement to pulley 20 from the idle pulley 9. A cap 2 covers the pulleys 1, 8 and 9 when the bobbin winding attachment is not on the base cabinet I.
It appears clearly from the foregoing description that the invention provides a positive spinning machine for domestic use and attains all the objects for which it has been made, as substantially described.
The invention herein described is to be taken as the preferred embodiment thereof and various modifications may be made in the details thereof, without departing from the spirit of the invention and Without exceeding the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a spinning machine comprising a twisting UNITED STATES PATENTS Number vertically secured to a bracket integral with said 5 Wall, said rod being threaded at its lower end and a nut thereon for raising and lowering said shelf, a motor supported on said shelf, a number of pulleys driven by the motor for transmitting movement to said spool and spindle.
