Description

M61) L. STOGKSTROM.
RANGE.
N0. 556,706 Patented Mar. 1?, 1 896.
Illllin '1 II 'illll UNITED STATES PATENT Fries.
LOUIS ITOCKSTROM, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHARLES A. STOCKSTROM, OF SAME PLACE.
RANGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,706, dated March 1'7, 1896.
Application filed S t b 14:, 1895. Serial No. 56 2,582- (No model.)
To a-ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS STOCKSTROM, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ranges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
lily present invention relates to an improved way of setting up or putting together a range or like article, whereby the work is facilitated an d the appearance of the article is improved.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure I is a detail elevation illustrative of my invention. Fig. II is a detail vertical section. Fig. III is a detail horizontal section. Fig. IV is a detail perspective view.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the base,2 the top, and 3 two of the sides of a range. The base of the range has corner-pieces 4.
My invention relates to the manner of connecting the sides together at the corners of the range. This I accomplish by means of tubes 5, one at each corner of the range. Each tube has a slot at 6 to receive the adjacent edges of the sides 3, (see Fig. 1H,) and the edges of the sides are bent, forming lips 7 within the tubes, whereby the sides are firmly connected together by the tubes. The slots of the tubes are preferably slightly narrower than the thickness of the two sheets of metal fitting therein, so that the tubes always ex.- ert a pressure on the sheets, forming a tight joint between them. The lower ends of the tubes are stepped into the corner-pieces 4: of the base of the range, and the top 2 of the range has bosses S fitting in the tops of the tubes, so that the tubes are firmly held in place by the base and top of the range. 9 are bolts that pass through the base and top of the range and through the tubes, binding them together.
My invention provides a neat and cheap manner of connecting the sides of the range together and forms perfectly tight join ts.
While I have shown and described the tubes for connecting the sides of the range at all four corners, it is evident that this means may be employed at the front corners only of the range and some other method employed at the back or rear corners of the range.
I claim as my invention- A range comprising a base, the corner-piece secured to the base, the corner tube having a vertical slot on its inner side and stepped into the corner-piece, the sides having lips formed on their adjacent edges which are located within the tube, the top having a pendent boss fitting the tube, and a bolt extending through the top, through the tube and through the corner-piece; substantially as de scribed.
