FENDER FOR ROCKERS.

Be it known that I, CoRA ATLANTA GAL- BRAITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Fender for Rockers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in fenders for the rockers of chairs, cradles, and other articles of furniture employing rockers; and it has for its object the provision of a suitable hood or protector to be fitted upon the end of the rocker to form a covering and fender, and thereby prevent the abrasion of the base-board of rooms as well as articles of furniture, &c., with which rockers are likely to come in contact When in use.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents aperspective of a rocking-chair, showing my protector in position. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the fender detached. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the fender, taken through the clamp. Fig. 4c is a longitudinal section of the fender.

Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts, the numeral 1 designates a hood or protector of the same general shape as the end of a rocker, and having the closed end 2 reinforced or thickened to add to its life, as well as enhance its cushioning properties, and adapted to be fitted over and clamped to the end of a rocker. This fender or hood may be of any desired length, it being necessary to cover so much of the rocker end as is likely to come in contact with the adjacent furniture or walls of the room, and may be made of any suitable material, preference being given to rubber on account of its durability and elasticity as well as its adaptability to the variations in the sizes and shapes of rockers.

The hood is secured in position by means of an adjustable metallic clamp l, which embraces the inner open end of the hood. This clamp is made of two parts, each part being approximately in the form of a right angle to conform to the shape of the hood, having their meeting ends 5 overlapping each other, and provided with slots 6, by means of which the clamp is easily adjusted to different-sized rockers. Brads or screws 3 pass through the slots at the meeting ends of the Clamp-sections, and similar brads or screws 7 pass through the slots at the sides of the sections, both sets of screws or brads passing into the hood or fender andholding the clamp-sections in their adjustment. Additional securing means may be employed, if desired, by the use of screws or brads passing through the bottom of the hood at 8.

It will be readily seen from the foregoing that I provide a simple and efficient fender for rockers, which in no way detracts from the appearance of the article to which it is attached, and which can readily be adjusted in position and easily removed when worn out. By making the clamp separate from the hood it will only be necessary to provide a new hood should it wear out or be injured, as the same clamp can be utilized indefinitely.

The clamp does not interfere with the working of the rocker, and has no projecting points which are liable to strike surrounding objects.

The clamp may be japanned or nickleplated to enhance the appearance of v the rocker.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A fender for rockers, consisting of a hood of elastic material of the same general shape as the end of the rocker, and having its outer end closed and also adapted to fit over and inclose the extremity of the rocker, in combination with a separate and independent clamp partially surrounding the inner end of the hood and confining the same between it and the rocker, the said clamp being composed of sections adjustable relatively to each other, whereby the size of the clamp may be varied, as and for the purpose specified.
