SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,376, dated March 1*?, 1896.

To all wwn t may concern:
Beit known that LVERNON ELI SAPP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Starke, in the county of Bradford and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Plow, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to plows; and it has for its object to provide particularly a new and useful construction of plow-stock employing a pair of plow standards or feet in connection with a single beam, whereby a light, strong and durable construction of double plow is provided, while at the same time having all the necessary adjustments to adapt the same for different kinds of work.
XVith these and other objects in view,which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a double plow constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, showing more clearly the arrangement of the inclined brace-rods for the standards or feet of the plow. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail sectional view on the line fr of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail in perspective of one of the clamp-bolts.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates the plow-beam constructed in the usual shape and length and having attached to the rear end thereof the usual pair of plowhandles 2, and at the opposite end having connected therewith the usual clevis 3.
In the present invention the s'ingle plowbeam 1 is adapted to have adj ustably arranged on opposite sides thereof the longitudinally-slotted forwardly-curved plow standards or feet 4.
The plow standards or feet 4 at opposite sides of the plow-beam are arranged one in advance of the other to provide a double plow, and the longitudinal slots 5 of said standards or feet 4 are adapted to receive the bolts 6 for clamping onto the standards or feet any form of plow shovel or blade that it may be desired to use in connection with the same. The rear of said standards or feet 4 is preferably provided with the rearwardly-extending horizontal or straight heel-bar 6u, that performs the usual function of holding the plow shovels or blades properly in the ground, and both of said standards or feet 4 are provided with angled offsets 7, from which are extended upwardly the integral flat attaching-arms 8, that rest flat against the sides of the plow-beam to which the standards or feet are connected. The longitudinal slots 5 are formed in the standards by bifurcating the latter throughout their entire lengths from a point adjacent to their lower extremities. The longitudinal bifurcation of the standards provides separate plates, one of which folds under and terminates at the offset 7 to reinforce and stiifen the latter, while the other of the plates is extended from the terminal point of the short plate to form the flat attachingarm 8.
The angled offsets 7 of the plow standards or feet hold the said standards or feet off from the sides of the plow, and therefore properly space the standards or feet from each other, so that the shovel or blade carried by each standard or foot will cut its ow furrow.
The flat attaching-arms 8 at the upper ends of the standards or feet 4 are embraced by the bolt clips or loops 9 at one end of the clampbolts 10, arranged above and'below the plowbeam, and the threaded shanks or ends of said bolts pass through perforations in the upper and lower ends of the clamp-plates 11, and are engaged by the clamp-nuts 12, working against the outer sides of said clamp-plates.
The clamp-plates 11 are located on the side of the beam directly opposite the arms 8 of the standards or feet, and when the nuts 12 are tightened, together with the bolts, provide means for clamping the arms S tight against one side of the plow-beam to hold the standards or feet stationary and firmly attached to the beam in their adjusted positions. By reason of the clip or loop connection 9 with the hat arms 8 of the standards or feet it will be obvious that by a loosening of the nuts 12 the plow standards or feet may be adjusted longitudinally on the beam as well as vertically, to suit the requirements of the plowing or the size of the person manipulating the plow.
Inclined or diagonal brace-rods 13 are connected at one end by means of suitable bolts 14 to each plow standard or foot, and the IOO brace-rod connected to the forward standard or foot is connected to the rear side of said standard or foot and, extending upwardly and rearwardly therefrormis preferably connected to one of the clamp-bolts for the rear standard or foot, and the brace-rod 4 of the rear standard or foot is connected to the front side of said standard or foot and, extending forwardly and upwardly therefrom, is preferably connected at its front end to one of the clampbolts for the front standard or foot.
By arranging the brace-rods 13 diagonally with respect to each other and at opposite In a plow, the combination with a single beam; of the standard provided at a point intermediate of its ends with an angled offset, and with a longitudinal bifurcation extending throughout its length from a point adjacent to its lower extremity, said longitudinal bifurcation providing separate plates one of which folds under and terminates at said o'lset to reinforce and stiffen the latter, and the other of which plates is extended from the terminal point of the short plate t0 forni an upright Hat attaching-arm resting flat against one side of the beam, and bolts secured in place above and below the beam and provided at one end with integral loops loosely receiving the liat attaching-arm of the standard and adapted to bind the same tightly against the beam, substantially as set forth.
