STRETCHER-YFRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 555,278, dated February 25, 1896.
Application filed October 11,1895. Serial No. 565,433. CNo model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, YVILLIAM A. ARBO- GAST and ILLIAM F. KELLER, citizens of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stretcher-Frames; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in curtain-stretchers, the object of the same being to provide a device of this character which will be simple and economical in construction and durable and efficient in use.
lVith this end in view our invention consists in the certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the stretcher. Fig. 2 is a view of the gearing and roller mechanism. Fig. 3 is a detached view of the clamp. Fig. 4 is a front view of the clamp, and Figs. 5 and G are detail views showing the rollers and bearings therefor.
A and B represent two sides and ends of a frame mortised together at each end. The frames A are provided with rollers O and D, which are journaled therein and rest upon the bearings E, placed at suitable distances apart in the frames. The roller 0 is provided at one end with the crank F and at its opposite end with a bevel gear-wheel G, which meshes with a similar gear-wheel H on the roller D.
The frames B have rigidly secured thereto a number of clamps K, and to the rollers O and D are secured a number of cords having clamps L adj ustably secured to the free ends thereof.
The operation of the stretcher is as follows: The curtain to be stretched is secured to the several clamps. The crank F is then turned,
-revolving the rollers O and D, thereby tighteningthe cords and drawing the clamps L holding the curtain toward the rollers, thereby stretching the same as much as desired.
' Having fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A curtain-stretcher having rollers in one end and side of a frame, meshing with each other and a crank for operating the rollers, a series of clamps adjustably secured to said rollers, and a series of clamps rigidly secured to the frames, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM A. ARBOGAST. \VILLIAM F. KELLER.
