garments, and has for its object to provide a device of this description which may be readily secured in place and in which there shall be no projecting points to the fastening devices liable to injure the hand of the wearer,
a further object being to prevent the accidental disengagement of the hook from the bar or eye to which it is attached and at the same time to permit the ready engagement of said hook and eye.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this application, Figure l is a perspective of my improved hook; Fig. 2, a plan view; Fig. 3, a bottom View; Fig. 4, a perspective of a preferred style of bar to be used in connection with said hook; Fig. 5, a sectional elevation showing the hook attached to a garment, but with the spur and pins not yet secured; and Fig 6, a sectional elevation showing my improved hook as it appears when secured to a garment and used in connection with an ordinary fastening bar or eye.
Similar numbers of reference denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
My improved hook is made entirely from sheet metal and is formed by stamping out all the parts integral with each other in the manner which I'will now explain.
l is the body of the hook, and 2 a spur cut out so as to depend therefrom.
3 are side bars which extend forward from the rear portion of the body and which are turned over at their junction at the forward extremity into the yform of a hook 4, which latter it will be observed is cut away at its central portion so as to present a skeleton appearance.
5 is a tongue which extends forwardly from the rear of the hook-body and is formed with a bow 6, which rises upwardly withinthe-hook 4, the forward extremity of this tongue being brought down to substantially the plane of the hook-body and terminating in a ledge 7 which latter is disposed rearwardly. This tongue is resilient, so that it will readily yield when the hook is engaged with any ordinary eye or bar and will return to its normal position after such engagement has been effected, so that said bar or eye cannot readilybecome disengaged by accident.
S are pins which project forwardly from the rear of the hook-body on opposite sides of the tongue 5 and normally rest upon the ledge 7, the latter affording a shield within which the points of the pins are housed, as will be readily seen from the drawings.
In attaching my improved hook to a garment the spur 2 and pins 8 are driven through the garment, as shown at Fig. 5, and the spur is then bent rearwardly up 'against the garment, while the pins are spread laterally and forced upwardly until they are finally pinched or sprung into position upon the ledge 7, as shown at Fig. 6.
It will thus be seen that my improvement may be readily attached to a garment, while at the same time the pin-points are housed, so that they cannot do any damage to the hand of the wearer. x
I have shown a fastening-bar 9 provided with spurs 10 for securing the same within a garment; but I lay no claim to this bar in this present application, and my improved hook may be used with any style of bar or eye.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hook for garments, comprising a body of sheet metal having at its rear end a depending spur and at its frontend a skeleton hook, and provided with a resilient tongue extending forward from the rear end and formed with a bow which rises upwardly within said hook and terminating in a rearwardly-disposed ledge, and also provided with pins which project from said rear end on opposite sidesY of said tongue and rest upon said ledge, substantially as shown and described.
