COLLAR BUTTON.

ATTORNEY.
I UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
JENS ANDREAS TRENDEL, OF KULMBACH, GERMANY.
COLLAR-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,626, dated January '7, 1896.
Application filed May 1, 1894. Serial No. 509,714. (No model.) Patented in Germany March 17,1894, No. 78,914; in Austria March 19, 1394; in Belgium March 20,1894; in France March 21, 1894, and in England May 1,1894.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J nNs ANDREAS TREN- DEL, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Kulmbach, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, Germany, have invented a new and Improved Oollar-Button, (for which I have obtained Letters Patent in Germany, No. '78, 914, dated March 17, 1894; in Austria under date of March 19, 1894; in Belgium under date of March 20, 1984; in France under date of March 21,1894, and in England under date of May 1, 1894,) of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to buttons, and more particularly to such as are used to temporarily attach the ends of a collar to a shirt-neck.
The object of my invention is to provide a button which may be inserted in the holes of a shirt neck and collar to adjustably hold the latter in place. It is sometimes very desirable, especially in summer time, to have a collar fit loosely the wearers neck and again at other times, as in winter, to have a closefitting collar. Such changes may be very readily made with one and the same collar or neck band of a shirt by using my improved collar-button.
The invention consists of a collar-button comprising a back plate, a stem having loops at either side of a median line of the button and a front plate or disk.
The invention further consists of the improvements hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a description of my invention, a is the back plate of the button, to which a shaftb of wire or other material having the shape of an inverted S is securely attached. This shaft 1) is shaped to form the loops b and b, extendin g in opposite directions from a median line of the button. The outer end of the shaft in is concentric with the back plate a and adapted to receive the ends of the collar 6, which are retained thereon by the head 0.
From Fig. 2 it will be observed that the .neckband cl may be shortened by hooking both ends of the neckband 01 over the outer bars toward the right or left and forming either the loops b or 5 or if it is desired to have a wide shirt-neck the ends thereof are placed in the respective loops b or b as shown, and it will also be observed that one or the other ends of the collar 6 may be placed over the outer bar forming the loop I), by which the collar e may be rendered to fit more closely or loosely the wearers neck.
Having thus described the nature and objects of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A collar-button comprising a back-plate a, a head 0 and a shaft 1) uniting said back-plate a and head 0, a loop 6 formed in said shaft and extending in one direction from a median line of the button, another loop 19 formed in the same shaft and extending in an opposite direction from the said median line, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
Signed at Nuremberg, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, German Empire, this 13th day of April, 1894.
JENS ANDREAS TRENDEL.
