If desired, I may place defieetors at one or more points between the drums for directing the heat and flane into contact with the tubes, and as other changes in the construetion and arrangement of the several parts might be resorted to I would have it understood that I do not confine myself to the details shown, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In a vertical water tube boiler, the combination with an external shell, of a mud drum arranged in the lower portion thereof and provided with a central vertical fine or passage way, a steam drum located within the upper portion of said shell and provided with a vertical flue or passage way therethrough and having a passage way around it, a damper or plug adapted to close said passage way, and means for raising and lowering the damper or plug.
2. In a vertical water tube boiler, the combination with an external shell, of a mud drum inthe lower portion thereof, a steam drum within the upper portion of said shell out of contact with said shell whereby a passage way is formed between the steam drum and external shell and provided with a vertical fine or passage way, water tubes connecting the drums, a dan'per orplug for closing the vertical fiue or passage way and means for raising and lowering said plug.
3. In a Vertical water tube boiler, the combinatien with the outer wall orshell, a base ring upon which the wall or shell is supported, a central fine, and a base or foundation upon which the latter is supported, of a mud drum located in the space between the inner wall of the furnace and the outer wall of the flue, said parts so constructed that the drum rests upon and is supported by both the wall and the fiue, substantially as set forth.
4. The combination with an outer shell, oi? a mud and steam drum, and a concentric series of pipes conneeting the latter, the enter series vertical, and the nner series ncliuing inward toward the upper drum, substantially as set forth.
5. The combination with a shell, a central flue therein, a base or foundation upon which the latter is supported and an an'ular mud drum secured between the inner wall of the shell and the outer wall of the flue, of an annular steam drum having an annular space between it and theinner wall of the shell, and pipes leading from one drum to the other, substantially as set forth.
