SAMUEL B. MEYERS, Oli` MILESBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
WASHING-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 547,669, dated October 8, 1895.
Application filed April 10, 18 95. Serial No. 545,260. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern/.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL B. MEYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milesburg, in the county of Centre and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Washing-Machine, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in Washing-machines, in which I use arms with mallets attached to one end and a concave bottom in box. It is operated bycrank-motion. It can be made single or double.
The accompanying drawings are for a double machine, in which-4 Figure l is an end view of machine; Fig. 2, a side view; Fig. 3, a side view with side removed; Fig. 4f, an end view with end removed.
Similar letters vrefer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Letters c c designate the arms of the mallets; E, the pin on which the arms swing; i z', uprights to support pin E 5 B, mallet attached to arm c; D, crankshaft; A, pulley; F, handle; G, long slot and box in arms c for crank-shaft; H H, arms of feeder.
This machine can be worked by hand or by other power, it having a handle on one end of shaft and a pulley on the other.
B is a mallet attached to arm c and is notched at the ends. By turning the crankshaft D the mallets vibrate back and forward and push the clothes against the concave ends of the box. At the same time the clothes move up at the end of the box and keep revolving, as indicated by the arrows.
H H are feeder-arms having ribs attached to lower ends and hang on crank-shaft D. The lower ends of arms slide against the concave of mallets, This feeder keeps pushing -the clothes down to the notches of the mallets and vhelps to revolve the clothes.
I am aware that prior to my invention washing-machines have been made, but differently constructed. I therefore do not claim Letters Patent on washing-machines, broadly; but
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination of a suds box having a concave bottom, an upright frame extending above said suds box, slotted arms suspended to swing from said frame, mallets carried by said arms, a crank shaft journaled in said frame' and passing through the slots in said arms, and reciprocating feeders H, suspended from said crank shaft having their lower ends resting upon and free to slide over the concave face of the mallets.
SAML. B. MEYERS.
