To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BAILEY, of Newton, county of Middlesex, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Cleaning Devices for Kid Gloves and the Like, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invention has for its object the production of a novel and eificient cleaner for kid gloves and the like.

My novel cleaner consists, essentially, in a readily flexible, preferably india-rubber, back provided at one side with a suitable handle or device to enable it to be operated and on its other side with a number of independent projections made integral with the back and partaking of its flexibility and constructed as rings or as hollow conic frustums having their walls tapering to an edge from the back, so as to present a series of thin flexible cups which operate not only by friction, but also by suction to remove dirt, &c., from the object being cleaned.

In the embodiment of my invention herein selected for illustration and shown in the drawings, a is a preferably thin india-rubber, and therefore readily elastic,back. This back is provided at one side with a plurality of closely-arranged integral hollow or ring-like projections b, said projections for the best results being frusto-conical in shape to enable their ring-like edges at the tops to be made very thin, yet at the same time give to said proj ections sufficient rigidity and support to keep them from tearing off when in use. The back a, at its side opposite the hollow projections 17, is provided with a suitable handle, preferably in the form of a strap 0, integral with the back, the back, projections, and handle being molded in a single piece. For use one or more fingers are inserted between the bandle and back, giving to the latter a somewhat hollowing and concaved form in the direction of its length and at the same time rendering it convex transversely, thereby enabling the cleaner to be easily and freely rubbed laterally back and forth over and in contact with the surface to be cleaned.

Notwithstanding the concavo-convex form which the cleaner assumes by reason of the insertion of one or more fingers between the back and handle, the ready flexibility of the back enables the same to be further bent longitudinally by curving the fingers to thereby adapt the already rounded face-surface to the curvature of the glove finger, wrist, or

other surface being cleaned. lines, Fig. 2.)

The cleaning is effected by the. thin ringlike tops or edges of the hollow projections 12, which during the movements of the cleaner enter and adapt themselves to every depression or inequality in the surface to be cleaned and by their drag, due to the hollow structure of the projections, operate to suck the dirt from the pores of the surface cleaned.

My invention is not limited to the particular shape of back or kind of handle, I being the first, so far as I am aware, to produce'a readily-flexible back provided at one side with a plurality of integral hollow cleaning projections.

As an improved article of manufacture, the within described glove cleaner composed of a back flexible throughout and provided with a handle, and having the independent inte gral hollow frusto-conical projections on one side whose walls taper to a thin edge from the back and are adapted to operate by friction and suction, substantially as set forth.
