' L. S. PFOUTS.
TROLLEY WIRE BRACKET. No. 546,407. Patented Sept. 1'7, 1895.
Nrrnn STATES A'TENT ii ricv.
LEROY S. PFOUTS,OF CANTON, OlllO.
TROLLEY-WIRE BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent Noa 546,407, dated September 1'7, 1895.
Application filed October 20, 1894:- Serial No, 526,483. (No model) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEROY S. PFOUTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolley-lVire Brackets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bracketaru'i, showing the different parts belonging thereto. Fig. 2 is a top view of the arm shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing a slight modification from that illustrated in Fig. 1.
The present invention has relation to trolley-wirebrackets; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A and A represent the arched arms, which arms are located and arranged substantially as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and when it is desired to provide an entire new arm the arched arm A is formed as illustrated in Fig. l, and its top or upper part provided with the elongated opening a, which elongated opening is for the purpose of receiving the top or upper end of the bar b, which bar is provided with the head 0, which head is for the purpose of limiting the downward movement of the bar I). To the lower end of the bar I) is attached in any convenient and well-known manner the trolleywire clamp B. The barb is provided with the apertures d, which apertures are for the purpose of attaching the inner ends of the helical springs C, which helical springs, when in their normal position, are inclined upward and their upper ends attached to the side arms of the arched arm A. The object and purpose of providing the elongated opening a. is to provide for passing the ears d through said opening, and at the same time allowing the trolley wire clamp B to swing laterally,
said elongated opening a giving room for the swinging movement of the bar b.
It will be understood that by arranging the springs G as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 3 the Weight of the trolley-wire will hold said springs taut, and as the trolleywire is lifted the sprin gs are free to relax and elevate the trolicy-wire.
In Fig. 3 the arched arm A is prcvid ed with the collar D, which collar is held at the desired point of adjustment by means of the set-screw e or its equivalent. The object and purpose of adj ustably attaching the collar D to the bracket-arm E is to adjust the trolleywiref to or from the pole F.
The arm G is provided with the pivoted arms H, which arms extend rearward and embrace the pole F, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, and are securely attached to the upper part of the pole by means of the lug bolts g or their equivalents. The object and purpose of providing the pivoted arms H is to adjust said arms to properly embrace poles of different diameters.
In Fig. 3 the arm E is shown attached to the pole F by means of the collar or flange 72. and suitable screws or bolts; but this construction is only illustrated to show that my improved arched arm A, together with the springs O, can be applied to the arms now in use. The arched arm A is provided with the chain 1, which chain limits the downward movement of the trolley-wire clamp 13 in the same n1anner or to the same extent that the bar I) limits the downward movement of the trolley-wire clamp, said chain I being attached at its bottom or lower end to the upper end of the trol ley-wire clamp B.
It will be understood that braces, such as K, are to be employed to hold the arms G and E in proper horizontal position.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of an arched arm, having attached to the side portions thereof the springs G, and their inner ends connected to a trolley wire clamp, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of the arched arm A,
provided with the elongated opening (a, the bar I), carrying a trolley Wire clamp, and provided at its top or upper end with the head 0, and the springs G, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination of a trolley Wire arm,
having pivotally attached to one end thereofthe arms H, and a pole located between said pivoted arms, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
at. The combination of an arched arm supported at right angles to the trolley Wire by an arm secured to a pole, and springs attached to said arched arm, and. a trolley Wire clamp located below the arched arm, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
