Be it known that I, DUNCAN MoLAoHLAN, of Groton, in the county of Tompkins, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in. Roll-Paper Holders and Gutters, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention relates to roll-paper cutters, and particularly to the cutting-blade, which is adapted to travel upon the periphery of the roll.

My object is to produce a blade for a rollpaper cutter slotted longitudinally in its front face, through which the end of the paper is adapted to travel, and upon the edges of which slotway the paper is readily torn oif, up or down, when desired for use.

My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation here inafter described, and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereunto annexed.

It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front View of an ordinary rollpaper cutter provided with a cutting-blade mounted upon its periphery and showing the slotway in its front face through which the end of the paper is adapted to pass. Fig. 2 is a front view of the blade detached. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the roll and blade mounted thereon, showing the paper passing through the slotway.

C is a cutting-blade, preferably triangular in cross-section (although I do not limit myself to this precise construction) and having a longitudinal slotway a in its front face, through which the end of the paper I) is adapted to pass. A blade (I is suitably mounted and concaved uponits under side, so as to adapt it to rest and easily travel upon the periphery of the roll. By constructing a longitudinal slotway a in the front or vertical face 1 form two cutting-edges in said front face, by which the paper may be readily torn up or down. It will be observed that when the paper is torn off the end of the paper will not protrude far enough to be grasped by the fingers, but by touching the roll and rotating it slightly the paper will immediately push through far enough to be taken hold of, as shown in Fig. 3, and drawn out and then torn to any length desired. It will also readilybe Observed that by this blade I am enabled to mount the paper roll beneath the counter and tear the paper oif by pulling it upward, or it may be mounted above and the paper be torn by pulling it down.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A blade for a roll paper cutter, comprising a cutting bar, substantially triangular in cross section, adapted to rest upon the periphery of the roll, and having its front face slotted longitudinally and adapted to receive the paper and the edges of said slot forming cutting edges.
