Be it known that I, FRED DE LA MATYR, of Fremont, in the county of Dodge and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pole-Tips; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relatos to an improvement in 'pole-t-ips, the object being to provide simple and efficient means whereby the ring on the neck-yoke, after having been slipped on the end of the pole or tongue, Will be prevented from escape, so that in the event of a tng becoming loose, or the horses becoming unhitched, or if the tugs are alittle too long, the tongue or pole will be prevented from falling and the occurrence of accidente Which might otherwise occur will he avoided.

With this end in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of my improvement. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view; and Fig. 3 is an end elevation, partly in section.

A represents a slceve or tip made of any suitable material and adapted to be placed on the end of a vehicle tongue or pole and se cured thereto in any suitable manner. The sleeve or tip A is made with an integral holdbaok 1, against which the ring on the neckyoke is adapted to bear. To prevent the ring on the neck-yoke from becoming accidentally detached from thetongue,1 provide the tip or sleeve with outwardly-projecting oppositely-located cars 2 2, which are preferably cast integral with said sleeve or tip and are located a suitable distance in advance of holdback 1.

The neck-yoke ring 3 may be made of any suitable material, such as leather, and provided with a central opening or hole 4, which shaped to correspond to the contour formed by cars 2 2 and the adjacent parts of tip A.

Ring 3 is adapted to be connected to any of the well-known constructions of neck-yokes, the means of connection being immaterial, as any of the forms now in use may be employed. When it is desired to mount the neck-yoke in its operativo position, ring 3 is first slipped on the end of tip or sleeve A, then adjusted s0 that hole 4 will register with cars 2 2, after which it is forced over said ears and adjusted in a perpendicular or upright position, which operation brings the greatest length of hole 4: at right angles to the cars 2 2 or vertical, and hence it Will be seen that the movement of ring 3 is limited between said cars and holdback 1, thus looking said ring and neckyoke against accidental displacement. The removal of the neck-yoke and ring maybe easily and quickly accomplished by simply turning the latter to a horizontal position and then moving same in a forward direction until it has cleared the tip or sleeve.

By constructing tip or sleeve A in the manner described it will be seen that an unobstructed hole for the introduction of the pole or tongue is obtained, and hence a strong connection at this point is secured.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A tongue or pole for vehicles having a hold back thereon, and a pair of thin laterally projecting ears extending abruptly from the tongue or pole and adapted to extend trans versely of the opening formed in the neck y0ke which latter they are adapt-ed to retain in place, substantiaily as set forth.
