Be it known that I, Tnoians CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement; in Holders for Billiard and other Cues while Trimming and Tip'Fastening the Same, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.

My invention consists of means for holding a billiard or other one while being trimmed, and, furthermore, of means for fastening a tip firmly upon a one after the same is gummed or cemented, in order to be caused to firmly adhere to the cue, the construction and operation of the parts of the device being hereinafter fully set forth.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cue-trimmer and tip-fastener embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a partial side elevation and partial vertical section thereof on line a; as, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 represents a partial top view and partial horizontal section. Fig. l represents a horizontal section on line y 3/, Fig. 2. Fig. 5 represents a side elevation of a portion of the device when employed to hold a one while being trim med. Fig. 6 represents a section of a portion of a modification of the device for fastening the tip to the cue.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a plate, and B designates a sleeve, which is formed of the channeled section B, which depends from and is secured to said plate, and the loose channeled section 0, which is placed loosely aside of the section B.

E designates a collar which encircles the sections B and C, and is. provided with a setscrew F for pressing the sleeve against the one and clamping the latter thereto.

In the plate A is a recess G to receive the upper end of the section 0 and permit said end to move to and from the upper end of the fixed section B. In order to prevent the section 0 from dropping through the collar E when the screw F is loosened, and to guide said section in its lateral motions, I secure to the sides of said section G the pins K, which project therefrom outwardly in horizontal direction and freely enter the slots L in the sides of the section B, so as to be capable of moving in and out of said slots, as will be most clearly seen in Fig. 5, where the collar E is lowered so as to uncover said pins and slots.

Referring to Fig. 5, it will be seen that when the one is placed in the sleeve B, the end of the same is adjusted so as to be just above the plate A, the screw F being tightened so as to hold the cue firmly in the sleeve. The projecting end of the one may now be trimmed, the file or tool employed being guided by the plate A as it is worked thereover while contacting with the cue end. When the operation is accomplished the screw is loosened, whereby the sleeve is opened and the one may be removed. The tip end of the one may, however, be moved upwardly, so that when the tip is glued or cemented and placed on said end it is pressed against the crown of the yoke H, whose limbs are connected with the plate A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so that when the screw is tightened the tip is firmly held in position, so when the glue, cement, 860., is dry the tip will be found to be securely connected with the one. The screw is then loosened and the section 0 separates from the section B, so that the one may be withdrawn through the sleeve. The lower ends ofthe limbs of the yoke .l' are grooved so as to receive the sides of the plate A, said yoke thus being removable from said plate, but the plate and yoke may be cast or formed in one piece, as shown in Fig. 6.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A one tip fastener consisting of a fiat plate, a sleeve having a depending section with slots in its sides, and a loose section with horizontally extending pins in said slots, a clamping collar with screw bearing against said loose section, and a yoke with limbs having grooves at its lower ends connecting it with said plate, said parts being combined substantially as described.

2. A flat plate having an opening therein, with a sleeve section depending therefrom and secured thereto, a loose sleeve section having pins entering slots in the side of said first mentioned section, a clamping collar encircling said sections and having a screw hearing against said loose sleeve section, and a yoke rising from said plate, said parts being combined substantially as described.
