To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FLORIEN JONISH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Little Falls, in the county of Morrison and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Buttons; and I do doclare the following to be a full, clear, and exact decription of the invention,such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has relation to buttons or fastening devices for garments, and among the objects in view is to provide an extremely simple, cheap, and efficient device which may be used in all places where ordinary buttons have heretofore been used, and which device is not liable to become detached from a garment; and with the above objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction of the device, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings, and pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View illustrating my device in connection with a garment. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device detached, showing in dotted lines the pins or spurs as out of engagement with the retaining or looking spurs or projections of the device, and in full lines representing said pins in engagement with the said projections. Fig. 3 is a front view of my button.

In carrying out my invention I provide a piece of wire (brass, iron, steel, or the like) and form loops or eyes 1 at each end thereof.

I then bend said Wire to form diverging arms 2, which are bent inwardly and upwardly toward each other, as at'3, whereby to form a guide passage or way 4, and beyond the latter the arms are again spread apart, as at 5, and then twisted together, as at 6, the twisted portion standing at right angles to the remaining portion of the arms. The arms are then bent to form a loop or head 7, the latter in practice serving the purpose of the ordinary button, the twisted portion serving as the shank therefor.

8 indicates spurs or pins which are inte gral with a right-angular (or nearly so) portion 9, which is pivotally connected to the loops or eyes 1, and said pins 8 are suflicientlylong to adapt them to be pressed together and then passed within or through the guide-passage t and engage over the inwardly-bent portions 3 of the device, and thus be locked in place.

In applying my device the pins 8 are passed through the garment and are then forced through the guide-passage 4 and allowed to spring over the portions 3 of the device, whereby the latter is securely attached to the garment. The head 7 is adapted to be passed through a buttonhole of another garment, and thus attach the two garments together.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The herein described device consisting of a piece of wire bent to form loops or eyes 1, the divergent arms 2 bent inwardly and upwardly toward each other as at 3, forming a throat or passage 4 and said arms being again spread apart beyond the said passage, as at 5, and twisted together at 6, said twisted portion standing at right angles to the remaining portion of the arms and the loop or head 7 formed by spreading the arms laterally upon each side of the twisted portion-6, and spurs S integral with an angular portion 9, pivotally connected to the eyes 1, all as and for the purpose specified.
