To aZZ whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, CHARLES SICHLER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, and a resident of Berne, in'said Republic of Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooking-Clamps, (for which I have obtained patents in France, No. 234,43ei, dated November 30, 1893; in Switzerland,No. 7,621, dated December 1, 1893, and in Belgium, No. 108,831, dated March 5, 1894;) and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a hooking-clamp for use in connecting two pieces of fabric, or two parts of a single fabric or garment.

The invention is clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figurel is a side view of the device; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section thereof, and Figs. 3 and 4 cross-sections of same.

The letter a designates a base-plate, to which a clamping-plate h is pivotally connected, as shown at e. Each plate is provided atits forward end with gripping-teeth g g g g, and a spiral spring t on pin a has the tendency to press the said ends together so that the teeth thereof shall engage the fabric or garment, as hereinafter fully described.

The rear portion of the base-plate dis provided with longitudinal slots 71., within which the curved hooks Z 1, connected with lever 70, are adapted to operate. The said hooks and lever forming the hooking-section, are pivotally connected with the base-plate a, as shown at f. A spring m encircles the pivotf, and has it sopposite ends resting, respect ively, on the base-plate and locking device,

so as to keep the latter in closed position when not otherwise required.

My hooking-clamp is mainly intended for use in fitting garments, such as cloaks, jackets, waists, ($50.; but it will answer for other purposes, such as fastening napkins, neckties, due.

' In using the device the clamping end is first attached to one of the parts to be united,- then the lever 0 0f the hooking-section is lifted or turned around the pin f far enough to withdraw the hooks Z Z from the slots at of the base-plate a. The slotted end of the baseplate is then placed in desired position on the fabric or garment, when the hooking device is allowed to close and engage the same. In order to detach the device again, the lever 70 needs only to be lifted and the front clamp to be opened.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The herein described hookingclatnp, consisting of a base-plate having a fiat under surface, with parallel slots in the portion thereof, a spring-actuated lever, pivoted to the upper side of the base plate and having curved hooks adapted to operate in the slots therein, or be entirely withdrawn from same,

and a spring actuated clamp, pivoted to the 70 upper surface of the base plate, so that its front end shall impinge against the forward end of the base-plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
