UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
A. F. HAMMOND, OF HOUSTON, OHIO.
IMPROVED BURGLAR-ALARM.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 54,531, dated May 8, 1866.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, A. F. HAMMOND, of Houston, in the county of Shelby and State of Ohio, have made new and useful Improvements in BurglarAlarms; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the nature, construction, and operation of the same, sufficient to enable one skilled in the art'to which it appertains to construct and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are made part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a side View or elevation. Fig. 2 is an end elevation. Fig. 3 is a partial side elevation and partial section.
My invention consists of a device to be attached to any salient portion of the house-fitting, such as a window-sill, mantel-piece, or door-frame, or to a piece of furniture, and the trigger thereof to be connected, by springs or wires, to the door or window, so that the motion of the latter shall cause the hammer to fall and explode a cap or a charge.
A may be supposed to represent the mantelpiece, and B the barrel and stock of the pistol,
attached to the mantel-piece by means of the clamp Gand screw D.
E is the hammer, and F the detent of the same, and K the mainspring.
G is the lever of the trigger H, and is connected to door or window, or to any number of each, by means of the cord or wire L.
The draft on the cord L vibrates the lever G, and the pallet on the trigger H, by rotation, raises the detent F, so that the point J passes the end of the detent, which passes along the channel I as the hammer falls upon the nipple, and explodes the cap.
A match, O,is suspended from an arm, M, and is lighted by the explosion of the pistol.
Having described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the wire L and levertrigger G H with the detent, hammer, and the detonating match-lighting arrangements, substantially as described.
