Be it known that I, ANDREW WILLIAM BRENNAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Towanda, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Cabinets; and Ido declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon,which form a part of this specication.

My invention relates to shaving-cabinets; and it has for its object to provide a cabinet in which the mirror and the table or leaf for holding the shaving articles may be simultaneously raised or lowered, so as to adj ust the same to any height desired or necessary for the person making use of the cabinet.

lt has further for its object to provide means for covering the space back of the sliding mirror and leaf as the same are raised and lowered.

It has further f or its obj ect to provide means for imparting an increased tension to the traveling apron or cover back of the mirror, to which apron or cover the frame carrying the mirror and the counterbalancing-weight are secured; and it has further for its object to provide a shaving-cabinet of a simple and inexpensive construction in its several parts.

To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear the invention consists in the construction and the combination of parts hereinafter particularly described, and then sought to be specifically defined by the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- Figure l is a perspective of the shavingcabinet; and Fig. 2, a vertical section through the same, showing in dotted lines the raised position of the mirror and the table or leafa In the drawings, the numeral l designates a suitable frame of any approved form, having a guideway or groove 2, formed in the inside face of each of its two sides, in which grooves is a slide 3, to which is atiixed the mirror 4, and which also carries at its lower portion a table or leaf 5. It is preferred to form heneath'this table or leaf a compartment 6, formed with a hinged part 7, adapted when lowered to rest in a horizontal position,as indicated by dotted lines inl Fig. i2, so as to constitute a table or leaf that maybe used for writing purposes, the compartment 6 being adapted to receive writing or other articles that it may be desired to use. The leaf or table 5 is designed to receive a shaving-mug and other articles appropriate to a person desiring to shave. To the slide 3 is attached one end of an apron S, which passes around a shaft or roller 9, secured or journaled at the upper end of the frame l, and having attached at its lower end a counterbalancing rod or weight l0. This apron, after passing around the shaft or roller 9, passes in front of a guide roller or shaft ll,which serves to impart additional tension to the apron, so as to assist the counterweight in sustaining the slide and the parts which it carries at any height to which the same may be raised or lowered. This shaft or roller l1 also carries the apron toward the front of the frame, so that the counterbalancing-weight will not be liable to strike and batter the wall upon which the cabinet maybe hung or suspended. The apron 8 may be ornamented or decorated to suit the taste and serves the purpose, also, of covering the space to the rear of the sliding frame as the latter is lowered, so as to conceal from view the Wall back of the cabinet and the inside faces of the cabinet-frame as the slide is lowered, thus causing the cabinet to present a symmetrical and ornamental appearance. The sides of the frame may be connected together and braced by the transverse strips l2, and a slot 13 may be formed in the upper end of one of the sides of the cabinet to permit the easy insertion and withdrawal of one end of the journal of the shaft 9, the other end of which will fit in a suitable opening formed therefor in the oppcsite side of the frame. A shelf le is attached to the upper end of the slide 3 and projects forward from the side of the frame, and, taken in connection with the apron7 forms a pocket l5, in which may be placed articles for safe-keeping and out of view until desired for use.

The cabinet formed as described is simple and inexpensive in construction and enables the mirror and leaf or table for the shaving articles to be raised and lowered quickly and with ease, so as to bring both parts into the best position for ready and convenient use by the person who has occasion to shave, and can be made in such shape and with such decorations as to furnish an attractive and ornamental article of the kind described.

I have described with particularity the preferred construction and arrangement of the several parts; but it is obvious that changes can be made therein without departing from the essential features of the invention.

Having described my invention and set forth its merits, what I claim isl. A shaving cabinet comprising a frame, a slide carrying a mirror, a leaf or table extending horizontally from the lower portion of the slide, both the mirror and the leaf or table being carried by said slide, means for simultaneously adjusting both the slide and table and holding the slide at various adjustments,

said means consisting of a counter-balancingweight located back of the slide, a flexible band connecting said Weight with the slide, and a revoluble roll for said band to pass over, said roll extending transversely across the frame, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. A shaving cabinet consisting of a frame and the slide carrying the mirror, in combination with an apron attached at one end to the slide and provided at another point with a counter-balancing weight and passed over a suitable support at the upper portion or' the frame, said apron being adapted to close the space to the rear of and above the slide as the latter is lowered, substantially as and for the purposes described.

3. In a shaving cabinet, the combination with a frame and aslide carrying the mirror, of an apron attached to said slide and provided with a counter-balancing weight, a shaft or roller at the upper portion of the frame and over which said apron passes, and a second roller or shaft below the first named shaft and directing the apron toward the front of the first named roller or shaft, substantially as and for the purposes described.

4. In a shaving cabinet7 the combination with a frame and a slide carrying a mirror, of an apron attached to said slide and passed over a suitable support and provided with a counter balancingr weight, and a shelf at tached to said slide and projecting in front of the apron to form a pocket between the apron and shelf, substantially as and for the purposes described.
