Description

(N0 Model.)
L. KNOB PIGTUR No. 544,921. Patented Aug. 20, 1895.
/N VE N 70/? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEa LUDVIG KNOEFEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
PICTURE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 544,921, dated August 20, 1895.
Serial No. 534,995. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LUDWIG KNOEFEL, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Picture, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is anew article of manufacturenamely, a picture consisting of a whitemarble slab having a grained surface, a drawing produced on the said grained surface by a lithographic crayon, and a covering of varnish for'the grained surface.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure l is a'face view of the improvement, and Fig. 2 is a broken cross sectional elevation of the central part of the same.
In order to produce pictures of a high artistic value and to render the same permanent, I provide a plate or slab of white marble A, preferably formed in its front with a recessed surface B, on which is produced a grained surface 0 by rubbing the front of the surface B with sand and then cleaning the grained surface by washing the same to remove impurities or other loose material incident to producing the grained surface. \Vhen the plate or slab of marble has thus been prepared, I draw on the grained surface the desired picture D by means of a lithographic crayon, and then Icoat the grained surface of the picture by applying a varnish E, not
liable to wash the crayon and firmly adhering to the grained surface of the marble, so that after the varnish is dried the front face of the marble slab or plate may be washed off and a coating of varnish covering, the draw-.
ing and grained surface, substantially as shown-and described.
