BATH-BRUSH APPARATUS.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, MICHAEL J. Lyons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Brush Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to improvements in bath-brush apparatus; and it consists of the combination of a supporting-standard, a lever pivoted on the same and provided with a support for a scrubbing device, a scrubbing device on said support, and means for oper ating this scrubbing device.

It also consists of the combination of a supporting-standard, a lever pivoted on the same and provided with a yoke and counterbalance-weight, a brush adj ustably connected to one arm of said yoke, and an operatinghandle adjustably mounted on the other arm.

It also consists of certain other novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, all of which will be hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure lrepresents a side elevation of the devices embodying my invention in their lowered operative position as placed in relation to a bath-tub when used in conjunction with the same. Fig. 2 represents a top plan view of the same,

and Fig. 3 represents an end elevation of my said devices in their raised and inoperative position.

A in the drawings represents the supporting-standard, which is preferably secured to the floor by bolts or screws 0 in proximity to a bath-tub B. This standard is preferably provided at its top with a yoke A, between the arms of which a lever O is supported by means of its trunnions c, which enter conical recesses O in the ends of the arms of said yoke. The lever 0, though, may be pivoted in any other suitable manner to the standard A.

The lever C is provided at its rear end with a counterbalance weight or ball 0 and at its forward end with a yoke C, said yoke being provided with an apertured lug C by which it is secured to the end of the lever C by bolts (3. One arm of this yoke is flattened at the end C and bent inward and then forward, and-has formed therein a slot 6. A brush, sponge, or other scrubbing device of any suitable shape or design is attachedto said end 0 by a screw-threaded stud 0 with which it is provided. This stud is adapted to he slipped into the slot- C through its open end and securely held there by a thumb nut 0 applied to its screwthreaded end. (See Fig. 1.) The brush can be adjusted to any desired position in said slot, or it may be tipped to any angle desired and then rigidly secured by the thumbnut. The end of the opposite arm of the yoke is also flattened and is provided with a screw-threaded stud 0 An operating-handle F is also provided with an apertured fiattened end which fits over said stud C and is secured in any desired position by a thumbnut C (See Fig. 2, in which is shown in dotted lines one of the shifted positions of the handle I do not confine myself to a brush applied to one arm of the yoke O, as a wash-cloth or other rubbing or friction device with a suitable backing could be used instead. The weight (3 is heavy enough to counterbalance the weight of the lever O, yoke C, and other devices attached thereto, so that the normal position of the lever O is horizontal, as shown in Fig. 1.

It will be observed that by having the handle F pivoted to the yoke O different-sized persons can use the device with equal facility and ease by simply adjusting said handle F so that the body of the bather is comfortably accommodated between said handle and the brush, with sufficient room to spare for the rapid movement of the handle up and down without touching or injuring the body of the bather, as shown in Fig. 1. This device is mounted conveniently near the bath tub, so that the yoke C will come directly over the same, and abather standing in said tub, and between the arms of the yoke G can, by moving the handle F up and down and inclining his body slightly to the rear, thoroughly scrub or wash his back, chest, and

sides without any of the usual gymnastic contortions incident to such an operation.

IVhat I claim as my invention is 1. In a bath brush apparatus the combination of a supporting standard, a lever pivoted on the same and provided with a yoke, a scrubbing device on one arm of said yoke and an operating handle on the other arm, substantially as described.

2. In a bath brush apparatus the combination of a supporting standard, a lever provided with a yoke and a counterbalance weight, a brush connected to one arm of said yoke and an operating handle adjustably mounted on the other arm of said yoke, substantially as described.

8. In a bath brush apparatus the combination of a supporting standard provided with a yoke, a Weighted lever having trunnions which are mounted in the arms of said yoke, another yoke attached to said lever and earrying a brush and an operating handle on its respective arms substantially as described.

4. In a bath brush apparatus the combination of a supporting standard, a lever pivoted on the same and provided with a yoke, a brush adjustably mounted on one arm of said yoke and an operating handle adjustably mounted on the other arm of said yoke, substantially as described.

5. In a bath-brush apparatus the combination of a supporting standard, a lever pivoted on the same and provided with a counterbalance Weight, the latter extending over a bath tub or the like and a yoke, a scrubbing device adjustahly mounted on one arm of said yoke and an operating handle adjustably mounted on the other arm of said yoke substantially as described.
