but as far as I am aware the castings or fixtures heretofore used have been connected by bolts which pass through slots or elongated openings.

I am also aware that runners have been connected to the cross-bar so as to have a sliding movement thereon, the parts being held together and against vertical displacement by means of long bolts placed at the front and rear of the knee and connected to a bar which extends over the cross-bar and is attached to the runner.

I am also aware that it has been proposed to connect the runners and cross-bar by a joint which is coupled by means of a transverse bolt.

\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A knuckle-joint for sled knees consisting of castings B and 0 having convex recesses to provide bearing surfaces having side walls and projections with apertures which register with each other so that both castings are secured to the cross-bar by the same bolts, a casting D having side bearing surfaces and a central web 01 which are complementary to the bearing surfaces and recesses of the casting 0 attached to the under side of the cross-bar, and a bar or rave E having a horizontal portion which engages with the convex bearing surface of the casting Bfisecured to the upper side of the cross-bar, the ends of the bar or rave being attached to the runner, substantially as shown, whereby the bar'or rave holds the parts in engagement with each other, for the purpose set forth.
